Lunations and Long-term Aspects

The New Years get a bit of a jump-start given the fact that there are no retrograde planets, allowing their energies to express themselves through their respective signs of residence in an open manner.  On January 24th, however, Mars stations retrograde in Virgo, your 7th house of close relationships including your significant other, business partners and competitors.  This will be an important cycle for you for two reasons.  First of all, Mars usually only spends about a month in each sign and as a direct result of this retrograde period he will be in Virgo for nearly 8 months, i.e. until the 4th of July.  Secondly, this is your polar house and thus the impact will be stronger not only because your relationships are an important part of your life but because the Sun is an important component to any retrograde cycle and when he opposes Mars it will be from your sign.  If your birthday is within a day or so of March 4th this will have an even stronger impact.

A retrograde planet internalizes its energy, which brings it to play on your unconscious.  Of course Pisces, being a very intuitive sign, seems to have easier access to their unconscious than others.  Nonetheless, this will be enhanced or perhaps even on steroids, depending on your individual situation.  If there is anything going on with one or more close relationships as defined above, this is going to flush it out.  If you're already aware of this, which you probably are, then you will want to harness this energy to your advantage.  When the Sun opposes Mars in March this is when illumination occurs, meaning your unconscious and conscious mind merge.  This will be the big "Aha!" moment where you will know what this has been about, if you hadn't figured it out before.  If you had, now is when you might have a clear picture of what to do about it.  Once Mars stations direct you can definitely act on it and getting things resolved.  This transit is especially useful for dealing with any dysfunctional relationships.  Polar signs need to be in balance which is not always easy.  Of course your relationships reveal something about you as well.  At some point Mars is highly likely to oppose your natal Sun during this cycle.  In other words, if your birthday lies between February 23 - March 14 you are in the target zone.  When that occurs you are very likely to discover much of what this is all about.

The Full Moon on January 9 is in fellow Water Sign, Cancer, your 5th house of ego definition, creativity, romance, children, entertainment and speculation.  This is likely to bring a culmination or shift in phase to something in this part of your life.  A Full Moon is powerful because this is when it is most highly illuminated by the Sun, thus making the Sun's location important as well as the Moon is reflecting its light.  The Sun is in Capricorn, your 11th house of friends, organizations, groups, networking and goals.  In its simplest form, you are reflecting the other people in your life or perhaps your goals.  This is a time to determine how these areas fit together.  If you are trying to get a creative work off the ground, then networking can be helpful, but you can't depend entirely on that to get the job done.  If your birthday is within a day or so of March 9 your Natal Sun is connecting with this lunation in a positive way which will help you find the proper balance.  Neptune in your 12th house can also bring you some useful inspiration at this time, especially given that Venus is there as well.

The New Moon on January 23 is in nextdoor neighboring sign, Aquarius, your 12th house of dreams, inspiration, enlightenment, spirituality, seclusion, confinement, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing.  This is an excellent time to start a new endeavor in this part of your life.  However, there are a few challenges out there you need to deal with as well.  The New Moon is at the apex of a T-square which involves an opposition between Saturn in Libra and Jupiter in Taurus.  (If you know a little about astrology you may wonder how these planets can be in opposition when they're not in polar signs.  This is because Saturn is in the late degrees of Libra while Jupiter is in early degrees of Taurus, putting the planets within reasonable orb.)  Saturn is exalted in Libra which provides an environment where his energy can be expressed in a positive manner.  This includes the ability to structure something into material form and having the the discipline and sense of responsibility necessary to do so.  Libra comprises your 8th house of transformations, debt, shared resources, death and rebirth, sex and intense experiences so Saturn is working on effecting a significant change in this part of your life.

Jupiter is in your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, neighbors, siblings and local travel where he is working at expanding something, though it will be restrained slightly in a Fixed Sign that doesn't take well to change.  You therefore have a juxtaposition between something in this part of your life with the 8th, something that needs to be balanced with that inspiration or dream.  A T-square can represent a bit of gridlock or conversely a very stable situation.  Saturn in Libra could cause you to cling to old paradigms which Jupiter is trying to expand with this dialog needing to be resolved before your new endeavor can take place.  Do the usual mix and match routine with the various things included in the relevant houses and see what you can come up with.  This should be child's play for Pisces.
