Other RX Planets:  Mars until 1/30; Saturn until 05/03

This is our month, fellow Cappies, as the Sun makes its annual trek through your Sign.  This also marks your Solar Return period, meaning it's a start of a new cycle.  With Jupiter in your Natural 1st House of personality, it should be a significant time of personal expansion for you that could prove very rewarding.  The New Moon is in Cappy on the 8th, so if you were born within a few days one way or the other of January 8, it's likely to be even more significant in making a new phase of your life.  One thing to look out for, however, is that Jupiter will also be in a somewhat unfavorable aspect to Neptune during the better part of the month, which will also lock into your Solar Return and thus affect the upcoming year as well.  You're likely to encounter frustrations as you pursue your interests that can best be described to chasing a rainbow.  You'll be able to see what you want, think you know exactly where it is and how to get it, yet as you pursue it the target will likewise move, leaving you glaring at the new location with your hands parked on your hips.

Neptune is hanging out in your Natural 2nd House of possessions, finances, and pleasures.  This is nothing new, since he's been there since the end of January 1998.  During the past ten years you have probably been able to attain some of your dreams of the material variety, yet some may have also turned on you as well.  Neptune can inspire our dreams, fire us with inspiration, then give us the big, evil "Muuhahahaha" when it disappears before our eyes.  Any of you who happened to have money in the stock market this past year have probably heard that laugh on numerous occasions, unless your Sign Ruler, Saturn, got your attention early enough to avoid disaster.

This is not to say you should ignore your dreams, only that you need to throw out those rose colored glasses and look upon them in the bright light of day.  You're a cynic by nature, so don't deny this part of yourself, no matter how many people call you a pessimist, because you known damn well that it's saved your ass on more than one occasion and it's what will keep you from financial ruin during this transit.  Not all of its effects will be delusional and it's up to you to figure out which ones are and which ones aren't.  You can do it.  Research has found that as long as you're what they call an active pessimist (meaning you may gripe and grumble, but always get up and keep trudging up the mountain rather than rolling over and giving up) you're going to be as healthy and live as long as any starry-eyed optimists out there.  Cappy's are known for their longevity and this is probably why.  We don't give up, but put down our heads, align our horns and butt anything inconvenient out of our way as we pursue our path up that mountain, one step at a time.  Those of us ruled by Saturn seldom lead easy, carefree lives, but nonetheless we overcome the opposition and get where we want to go.

The first three days of the month, the Cappy Sun will trine Saturn, which will be to our advantage in applying some common sense to the Neptune influence.  As that fades away, Venus  will draw some 12th House dreams, inspiration or spiritual concerns into the mix and possibly tip the balance a bit toward Neptune as she moves into range to throw a square toward Saturn, which could cause a conflict of some description with our core values, which might be unnecessarily rigid.

During the first half of the month from January 1 - 13, Mars in Gemini, our Natural 6th House of work, health and pets, will be opposite Pluto in Sagittarius.  These two tend to be bad actors, especially in an unfavorable aspect such as this.  Mars RX tends to stir up suppressed anger and with this house placement it could relate to your work.  Bear in mind that the suppressed anger thing is likely to go very deep and have transformational effects with Pluto involved.  It will be cleaning house much more than Mars could alone, but your likelihood of resolving it once and for all is quite good.

Also be especially cautious regarding health issues at this time.  Mars, RX or otherwise, can trigger flare-ups of various kinds and with Pluto involved, it is likely to be something that's been brewing but hidden for quite some time.   If something is found that requires action, it will receive the impetus it needs after the 30th when Mars comes out of retrograde.  On the positive side, from January 25 - January 28, Mercury will be trining Mars from Aquarius, which will help identify what the problem might be, if not before.  The trine lasts until February 2, but take note that on the 28th, Mercury, the communications magnate, takes his turn in the RX cycle, which he usually does three times a year.  This is a favorable time for reworking or re-planning existing projects, but not for starting new ones.  This will make a mess of communications of all kinds as well as mechanical devices until February 19.  I hate to be blunt and don't want to scare anyone, but if perchance you happen to find out that you need something like surgery, I'd recommend postponing it until after February 19th, if at all possible.

If you make it until the 26th with no evidence of problems, you may have come through it safely as that is when Pluto makes his much-anticipated egress into Capricorn.  For us Cappies this is going to be like waking up some morning to find that the CIA set up operations in our living room while we slept.  All our secrets, including those we've kept from ourselves, will be out, and we are likely to undergo serious personal transformations as the God of the Underworld makes his way past our Natal Sun.  I have it on good authority, however, that this is very useful in the long haul and teaches us how to utilize our personal power in ways we previously left to Scorpios and other Plutonian types.

For roughly the second half of the month the astrological tennis match will continue as from January 10 - February 1, Jupiter takes his turn trining Saturn, which will once again enhance our natural common sense; both are resident in Earth Signs, i.e. Capricorn and Virgo, respectively.  This will be especially useful to those with birthdays during that time same period to do battle with Neptune as appropriate.  Saturn is currently retrograde over there in our Natural 9th House of academia, long distance travel, legal matters, religion and politics.  This of course means that our Solar Return will also reflect a year's worth of Saturn RX, but this also is not necessarily a bad thing.  Saturn RX tends to bundle up anything in its vicinity, let it incubate for the entire RX period plus whatever time it takes to get back where it all started, then hatch new stores of wisdom for your benefit when all is said and done.  Since the typical retrograde period, start to finish and back to the starting point takes about nine months anyway, being in effect for the entire year is almost a moot point.   But I digress.  Being RX in Virgo, our Natural 9th House, this transit is likely to unearth all sorts of issues relative to higher education, legal issues brewing, and world travel to say nothing of our core beliefs in religion and politics, especially in an election year.  Cappy's are usually pretty good about respecting authority, but only when it's earned, which doesn't happen much anymore.

The Full Moon on the 22nd will occur in Leo, your Natural 8th House of transformations and shared resources.  This may see the culmination of a shared investment or possibly the completion of a transformation of some sort.  From January 30 - February 4, Jupiter and Venus will be in a nice, friendly bear hug with the benefic pair in trine with Saturn.  This is likely to bring some positive attention your way that you will benefit from in a variety of ways.  Personal attention is likely, along with an increase in the favor you find with those around you.  If you have something going on in the 9th House, which was described in the previous paragraph, the benefits will spill to that as well.  There couldn't be a better way to end the month and start off the New Year.
