Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This month two planets go retrograde, Mercury as well as your traditional sign ruler, Saturn.  Depending on when your birthday falls, these retrograde periods could be a part of your solar return and thus be in effect all year.  As always, Mercury retrograde is a time to avoid purchasing electronic or mechanical devices.  (This does not apply to the entire year if it's in your solar return since what's involved is the "birth" chart established on the date you acquire the item you buy.)  It's also the time when computers, cell phones, email, and even written communications seem to get honked up.  Thus, try to get anything of this nature taken care of before February 23, the sooner before the better.  The retrograde period is a favorable time to review, re-plan, edit, revise, repair and that sort of thing but not so much for new endeavors.  Mercury's entire retrograde will occur in Pisces, your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs, comforts and pleasures.  Pisces is the sign of Mercury's debility as well as fall, meaning he doesn't function too well in that sign as it is and being retrograde will probably not improve things. 

However, given that there is a whole lot of energy in Pisces generally this month, with as many as half of the modern planets there by the end, the possibility for inspiration, insights and enlightenment is increased so perhaps the suspension of logical though won't be entirely unfortunate.  Remember to bear in mind that there is a place for logic and a sanity check never hurts to ideas that are simply too far out to be feasible.  Reviewing your budget and finances may be hard to concentrate upon.  However, perhaps the comfort side of the 2nd house will be greatly enhanced.  Escaping from everyday stress, relaxing, daydreaming and enjoying life are favored.  Mercury retrograde tends to be a difficult time to travel, however, so bear that in mind.  Delays and goofed up travel arrangements are very likely which can reverse any relaxing effects in a heartbeat.

Saturn retrograde, which starts February 18, is all about delays.  This will be concentrated in fellow Fixed Sign, Scorpio, your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status.  This is not the time to look for much progress in this part of your life.  When Saturn is retrograde he typically operates at the subconscious level, focusing on something that needs to be restructured.  You may be entirely unaware of this process or perhaps notice you're a bit irritable or restless without knowing why.  By the time he goes direct in July you will understand what this particular message is and have it in place by the time the shadow period is complete.  If your birthday is right around January 31 this effect will be strongest because he will station retrograde squaring your natal Sun.  Use this time to ponder your status in general and any improvements you'd like to make.

The New Moon on February 10 is in your sign and of particular significance to those of you born right around that day.  This is an excellent time for Aquarians to make a new start in some part of their life.  Venus is in Aquarius which is great for how you present yourself and can even enhance your personal appearance.  Others are likely to view you very favorably as well.  As noted above, there's a whole bunch of energy in Pisces, your 2nd house of income, possessions and comforts but this may be held back a bit by a square from Jupiter in Gemini.  Gemini is your 5th house of entertainment, ego development, creativity, children and romance and what this suggests is that pursuing matters in that part of your life could have a negative effect on your finances or you may even be a bit delusional about how much you're spending, which can bite you later.  You may want to put on a grandiose birthday celebration and be oblivious to how the expenses are building up, simply not care or truly believe that you'll win the lotto in time to cover the bill.  Just be aware of that inclination to avoid unpleasant surprises later.  Practice innovation and creativity in such a way to minimize expenses and you'll be in good shape. 

The Full Moon on February 25 is in Virgo, your 8th house of transformations, intense experiences, sex, death and rebirth, shared resources and debt.  This can bring a culmination or shift to a new phase of something in this part of your life.  By this time four planets are in Pisces with Venus but a sneeze away.  The inclination to financial problems continues and even becomes more intense at this time, so be particularly aware of what is going on.  Concentrate on being frugal and using innovative means to save money.  Innovation and creativity are favored so put them to good use.  You may not already be one of those avid couponers who tie up lines in the grocery store but it may be time to think about becoming one.  By this time Saturn is retrograde and in mutual reception as well as partile sextile with Pluto.  Pluto is in your 12th house of enlightenment, dreams, visions, inspiration, institutions, seclusion, confinement, hidden enemies and self-undoing.  Pluto is great for unearthing secrets and hidden knowledge which, combined with Saturn, can help restructure whatever it is with your status or career that Saturn is working on.  If you are unhappy with your existing career or perhaps lack of one, this can be very helpful for getting to the root of what you really want to be when you grow up and putting a plan in place to get there.  If your birthday is right around February 8th you may be due for a significant life change.  Put that energy to work where you want it remembering you either use the energy it or it has its way with you.
