Welcome to 2013 which has arrived regardless of the various predictions to the contrary based on the end of the Mayan calendar on 12/21/2012.  As noted last month, the chart for that day simply wasn't ominous enough to indicate global annihilation.  Events such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados and volcanoes are going to show up in some way astrologically, even though the real driver is how the transits connect with the charts of individuals, cities, countries, governments, corporations, and so forth, as shown in some of the astroblogs.  Few events are entirely devastating for everyone in a given area, much less the world at large.  There are always a handful of miraculous escapes as well as those who actually benefit from any disaster so such pervasive predictions seldom play out.  Of course preparation also plays a key role, e.g. Noah building an ark. This is not to say that disasters at a global scale can't or won't happen, only that the chart for the winter solstice didn't suggest such an occurrence.  In other words, if you ever note that astrologers are heading en masse for bunkers in the Rocky Mountains you may want to start worrying.

The New Moon on January 11 is in Capricorn, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and regeneration, debt, shared resources and intense experiences, including matters which have been suppressed.  A New Moon is a favorable time to start something new and thus work on one of these areas, especially if your birthday is right around June 12.  In fact, if your birthday is around that time you have probably noticed that you have been bombarded lately with significant events and situations.  This is because the November solar eclipse was on your natal Sun and every New Moon since that time has hit the same degree with this continuing until at least March.  The same goes for those born around May 29 who were hit by the lunar eclipse and every Full Moon since, again until March, at least.  Clearly this is a time of significant activity and change so resistance is futile once the Universe goes on such a push.  First and foremost remember that you need to use this energy according to your will or it will use you as it sees fit.  No matter what aspects you're dealing with, even if they're very difficult, will be less trying if you identify the lesson or message and go with the flow as opposed to trying to fight it.  As a Mutable sign this should be easier for you than others.  You thrive on information anyway so seeing it as a learning experience is another way to help you cope.

Surprises are possible that could originate with friends or group associations.  It may also be time to make a radical change in some of your goals, perhaps triggered by an event that takes you by surprise and changes you in some way.  It may be dramatic, it may only be a major "Aha!" moment.  Hard work on the job is likely for a while but not necessarily in a bad way.  You may find yourself finally doing something you've wanted for a long time yet need to get into the groove and build a new routine and modus operandi.  You have a variety of talents which you've developed over the years which can help you here.  Drawing from past experience, eliminating what you no longer need and getting organized are favored.  Make sure your beliefs and expectations are in line with what you want to accomplish as well.  Don't shoot too low or too high at this time.  Aim for practical, steady progress.  Jupiter is transiting your sign which will bring good luck and expansive opportunities, particularly as he passes by your natal Sun, which is the case for those of you born right around May 28.  He's currently retrograde, internalizing that energy and further motivating you to examine your beliefs which are likely to also include relationship issues. 

As an Air sign Gemini tends to be driven by logic and make most decisions with the head as opposed to the heart.  Earth signs aim for practicality, stability and security, which are also usually driven by logic.  Fire signs are intuitive and sometimes impulsive and thus a little more driven by their feelings.  Water signs, however, are deeply emotional and feel things in a way that may be entirely foreign to you.  Thus, if you're having relationship challenges consider that the other person very likely sees things entirely differently than you do and they may even think you're cold or unfeeling due to your propensity for analysis and logic.  Recognize that each is valid in its own way and there is much to be gained through the synergy possible of blending them together.

The Full Moon on January 26 is in Leo, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings and neighbors and suggests a culmination or shift to a new phase of something in this part of your life.  This is a time when thoughts can finally congeal into a new opinion or belief and possible set you off on a new path, with which Mercury, your sign ruler, is positioned to lend assistance.  There are a few challenges out there this month including the possibility that your thinking may be foggier than usual.  There may be some confusion with regard to where you're headed, particularly where your career or status is concerned.  With Neptune in your 10th house which comprises such things along with your reputation and public image, some degree of confusion of dreaminess is likely to be there for a long time.  Neptune is also the natural ruler of dreams and visions, however, so this can be very helpful in attaining your dream job.  Various opportunities abound with the challenges which can help mitigate the obstacles.  These are likely to come from friends, neighbors and professional peers so rely on your communication skills and data gathering abilities to find what you're looking for.
