Well, here we are in 2013, or darn close, and it's apparent the world as we know it didn't end on 12/21/2012, at least for most of us.  There were no solar flares, asteroid impacts, super volcano eruptions, massive earthquakes or hurricanes even though winter storm, Euclid, undoubtedly left his mark along with some record breakers and rarities such as winter tornados.  Undoubtedly these types of events will continue and even scientists agree that it's just a matter of when any of those catastrophes could strike.  Nonetheless, as an astrologer it was clear to me that the chart for that particular date was insufficiently ominous to indicate global annihilation, as you can see in the astroblog section which looks at a few major disasters.  When you see astrologers en masse heading for the Rocky Mountains with their bug-out bags, THEN it's probably time to worry.

The New Moon on January 11 is in nextdoor neighboring sign, Capricorn, your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs and pleasures.  Mercury, Pluto and Venus are there as well, lending additional energy to start something new in this part of your life.  If there is anything you're hanging onto which you know you really can't afford anymore, then it's likely you'll discover one way or another that it's time to let it go.  Someone close to you will probably be quite supportive of this action which you already know at the subconscious level is the right thing to do.  This is not necessarily a material object but could be.  On the other hand, it could be some part of your ego you're clinging to which is actually holding you back.  For example, think of where Al Bundy may have progressed careerwise beyond being a shoe salesman had he entirely walked away from his high school football career and looked to new peaks. 

Mars in your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel bears some watching.  Use it or it will use you.  Put action behind your ideas and drive defensively, especially around your own neighborhood.  If you're an aggressive drive be especially careful.  With Saturn in your house of hidden enemies and self-undoing, the lord of karma may bring something your way you won't like.  This is a great time to let go of any self-defeating behaviors and turn over a new leaf.  Not only is it obviously the beginning of a new year but astrologically you have some assistance.

This lunation will semi-sextile your natal Sun if your birthday is right around December 13, giving it a bit more influence.  Those of you born then have been bombarded with a lot of cosmic energy since November when the solar eclipse was at 21 degrees Scorpio.  Since then every New Moon has been in that degree of its respective sign, further reinforcing the eclipse.  Each month the aspect has been slightly different, some favorable and some not so much, and this will continue until at least March.  Thus, if you've been seeing a lot of activity and significant events the past few months that is why.  If your birthday is right around November 29 then the lunar eclipse in November and every Full Moon since and into March has been aspecting your 7 degree Sun.  You folks have likewise probably seen a lot of activity and any of you who have planets in both degrees will have definitely seen some interesting events.

The Full Moon on January 26 is in fellow Fire Sign, Leo, your 9th house of higher learning, long-distance travel, beliefs, expectations, other cultures, relocation, religion, politics and legal matters.  This should bring a culmination or shift to a new phase of something in this part of your life.  There are some challenges associated with this lunation as always but there are likewise several opportunities out there to mitigate any obstacles.  It's more important than ever to rid yourself of any self-defeating behaviors and if you haven't done so already you may get a cosmic kick in the rear as a reminder.  Your sign ruler, Jupiter, stations direct the end of this month and will be most noticeable if your birthday is right around November 28.  This is likely to relate to a relationship issue in some manner, perhaps related to taking it to the next or a new level.  Watch for opportunities right in your own backyard, ideas of your own or coming from siblings or neighbors and encourage you to express your individuality in a new way.  Developing a few new beliefs or a trip are other possibilities.
