Looks like we made it to 2013 in spite of the plethora of apocalyptic predictions related to the end of the Mayan calendar on 12/21/2012.  As noted last month, the chart for that day simply wasn't sufficiently ominous to indicate global annihilation.  This is not to say it won't happen, only that the date in question did not look to be a viable candidate astrologically.  Having seen much worse charts for localized earthquakes, hurricanes and tornados it simply didn't fit the bill as you can see in our astroblog section.  Furthermore, how the transits for any given day connect with the chart of individuals, countries, cities, governments and corporations is singularly important as evidenced by the fact that typically a variety of individuals escape any disaster, sometimes in miraculous ways.  Someone always comes out on top, such as subterranean mammals and other critters when the dinosaurs were extinguished 65 million years ago.  If you ever see us astrologers heading for the hills en masse with our bug-out bags THEN it is probably time to start worrying.  Meanwhile, here we are, so let's see what's going on this month.

The New Moon on January 11 is in fellow Earth Sign, Capricorn, your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, politics, religion, higher learning, other cultures, foreign travel and relocation making it an excellent time to begin an new endeavor in one of those areas.  If your birthday is right around May 12 you will receive a nice influx of positive energy to help you along.  In fact, those of you born right around that time have probably noticed some interesting happenings in your life with more significance than usual the past few months.  Likewise, those of you born around April 28, the reason being that starting with the eclipses back in November the lunations have been occurring consistently at the same degrees of the different signs.  Thus, those with their natal Sun at 21 degrees or 7 degrees of any sign have been receiving an energy boost each month which will continue until at least March. 

This month's New Moon is accompanied by Mercury, Pluto and Venus in the same sign, providing additional impetus toward activity in this part of your life.  Suitable for a New Year, this is very helpful for setting a new course in your life including but certainly not limited to some goals.  Most people burn out on the typical New Years resolution fairly quickly, whether it involves losing weight or balancing their checkbook.  However, I have found that if you simply write down what you'd like to accomplish (or perhaps have handed to you by a genie in a bottle) that you will make progress in that direction with minimal effort that does not require constant discipline or beating yourself up by "shoulding" on yourself.  Rather it programs you at the subconscious level, especially if it put the list somewhere that you'll see it everyday, and also informs the Universe of your intent and invites assistance.  Try it, it's not difficult, and you have nothing to lose.

Jupiter is in your 2nd house of income, finances, possessions, needs and pleasures which should bring some luck and good fortune your way.  With Uranus in Aries, your 12th house of dreams, visions, institutions, spirituality, inspiration, hidden enemies and self-undoing, expect some interesting activity in this part of your life that can take you by surprise.  If you have a sudden urge to buy a lotto ticket, do so.  Obviously don't spend your entire paycheck because if you're meant to win you only have to buy one.  I generally maintain that lottos are a tax on those who are bad at math because the odds are so low that you'll win.  Furthermore, studies have shown that people are usually worse off a few years after winning than they were before.  But a sudden, unexpected windfall is possible. 

You may encounter some resistance to starting something new which isn't surprising given you're a Fixed Sign that doesn't particularly like change.  There may also be something else lurking in your subconscious holding you back which you should try to identify if you feel stuck.  There could be something in the "self-defeating behavior" category keeping you from achieving what you want.  Saturn is tromping through your 7th house of close relationships which will be most apparent if you were born right around April 30.  Responsibilities and obligations may seem heavier than usual or there may be problems with someone that need to be resolved which may necessitate restructuring the relationship in some way.  Taking action on  career ambitions may be hindered by this situation in some way as well.  You may be able to gather some encouragement or inspiration from friends or networking at this time so don't isolate yourself.  Developing and maintaining a positive can-do attitude is important right now so hang out with those who bolster your beliefs in a favorable direction as opposed to those who tear you down.

The Full Moon on January 26 is in fellow Fixed Sign, Leo, your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots and new beginnings/endings.  While there are likely to be challenges and some degree of discouragement there are also numerous opportunities out there to watch for which should help mitigate the obstacles.  By now you should be able to identify any self-defeating behaviors which is the first step to overcoming them.  Consider what your status is versus what you would like it to be and commit to breaking free from anything you've allowed to hold you back.  Consider your needs and wants, believe you can get them and commit emotionally to going after them.  This is a time of new beginnings with a lot of cosmic energy backing it up so take advantage of it any way you can.
