Knowing your practical nature and tendency to worry you're probably breathing a giant sigh of relief about now that all those doomsdayers predicting the end of life as we know it due to the end of the Mayan calendar were wrong, at least for now.  I'm certainly not saying you can put away your bug-out bag and relax because even the scientists admit it's not a matter of "if" but "when" nasty things are bound to come your way.  However, I also believe that astrology can give us all a heads-up when it's most likely to happen and the chart for 12/21/2012 definitely didn't look like global annihilation.  Much more ominous charts have accompanied localized disasters like hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes and volcanoes, as found in the astroblog section.  Furthermore, transits alone may pack a lot of energy with negative potential but the outcome also depends on the chart of the country, city, government, corporation or individual involved.  This, of course, implies the benefit of having an astrologer on retainer to keep an eye out for such things.  At any rate, here we are in 2013 so let's see what's going on.

The New Moon on January 11 is in fellow Earth sign, Capricorn, your 5th house of ego definition, creativity, children, romance, entertainment and speculation.  Your sign ruler, Mercury, as well as Pluto and Venus are in that sign along with the Sun and Moon, placing a lot of energy in that venue.  This makes it an excellent time to start something new in that part of your life.  This is especially true if your birthday is right around September 14.  If that's you it's very likely you've seen numerous interesting and potentially significant events over the past few months.  This is due to the fact that the solar eclipse in November was at 21 degrees (Scorpio) and your natal Sun is in that same degree, or real close too it.  Eclipses pack a powerful wallop as it is, but every New Moon since has also been in that same degree and will continue to be until March, thus reinforcing the effects.  Each aspect carries a different energy, some challenging, some favorable, and you'll be happy to know that this month it's favorable.  Those born within a day or so of August 31 will have noticed similar effects with their Sun at 7 degrees, which is where the lunar eclipse occurred followed by Full Moons in that degree since. 

Saturn is transiting your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings and neighbors which is going to last for a little more than a year.  This can sometimes feel like driving with the brakes on as far as your mental processes are concerned but it is a favorable time for organizing your thoughts and ideas such that you lay a firm foundation.  Adding something new to your life often requires that you get rid of something you no longer need to make room for it.  This will be assisted by Pluto who's going to be hanging out in your 5th for quite some time. Pluto is the planet of transformation and getting rid of any sort of extra baggage, whether it's psychological or lurking in your garage, basement or attic.  If nothing else, think about whom you are and what you want to become. 

Uranus in Aries, your 8th house of transformation, sex, death and regeneration, debt, shared resources, intense experiences and things you suppress, could facilitate some action in this part of your life by bringing a few surprises your way that force your attention in that direction.  Old issues that involve previous lovers or your children may surface.  This is not a favorable time for any speculative joint ventures, investments, or trips to Vegas.  As the planet of freedom, breaking free and rebellion, Uranus can help you eliminate debt during this transit by helping you transform your spending habits.  Career opportunities are favored at this time while Jupiter traverses your 10th house which also includes your reputation, public image and general status.  He's getting ready to station direct on the 30th which will have the most influence if your birthday is right around August 29.  This could bring a situation where you give serious thought to something in this part of your life that could involve ethics or your belief system.

The Full Moon on January 26 is in nextdoor neighboring sign, Leo, your 12th house of angels and demons.  It includes such things as spirituality, dreams, visions, inspiration, institutions, seclusion, confinement, hidden enemies and self-undoing.  Be on the lookout for deception and don't believe everything you hear, especially at work or with regard to career.  There are some challenges out there but numerous opportunities as well which can help you surmount any obstacles.  Pay attention to your gut feelings and impressions at this time and any flashes of insight or inspiration that come along.  Work is likely to be busy, perhaps to the point of being somewhat overwhelming, but your organization skills and putting them to work in an innovative way can be useful to not only you but those around you.  This can ultimately bring some favorable attention your way which will deliver a a fair amount of satisfaction your way as well.
