Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This is a busy month astrologically with more to ponder than the two primary lunations, i.e. the New and Full Moon.  These comprise a Grand Water Trine and Grand Sextile worth noting.  I can just hear you now, thinking I lost my mind since I've been yammering about a Grand Trine since last month, which is true.  But this one is more significant for two reasons.  Firstly, the previous ones involved inner, fast-moving planets and the Sun.  These aspects don't last very long plus these planets are more involved with daily events.  Which brings me to the second reason which is that this new Grand Trine involves Jupiter, an outer planet which moves slower and tends to relate to themes that last longer and have a greater influence over all.  When the outer planets, which is the case here with Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune involved, the effects are more pervasive.  So, bottom line, this Grand Trine has more punch than the others which may have simply brought something in the daily course of things that didn't have any lasting significance.  The Grand Sextile is quite rare but I'll get to that later.  Let's get started with the New Moon and then look at these others as they'll occur.

The New Moon on July 8 is in fellow Cardinal Sign, Cancer, your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots, endings and new beginnings.  This is where cycles begin and a New Moon also indicates something new but in this important house is also likely to contain more significance, especially if your birthday is right around April 6.  Jupiter, one leg of that Grand Water Trine, is in Cancer as well and squaring your natal Sun if your birthday is right around March 23, tying you into that Grand Trine.  Jupiter is in the sign of his exaltation where he can expand and inflate what he touches more readily than he could in Gemini where much of the effect was too much information and too many ideas to organize or act upon.  Mercury is also in that sign, suggesting thoughts about home.  Mercury is retrograde, however, which indicates rethinking, reconsidering, reworking, repairs, and so forth.  Remember to avoid buying anything electronic or mechanical during this time.  I can also be a time when things break down.  It's favorable for maintenance activities and putting things in order.

The New Moon is in a loose but viable T-square with that infamous Uranus - Pluto square.  Those of your born right around April 2 have Uranus conjunct your natal Sun which is likely to be stirring things up to a hectic pace.  You will definitely not want to be told what to do, even more than usual, and any rebellious streak you may already have is definitely being activated.  Pluto is in your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status where he is probably renovating a few things in this part of your life.  He can also represent power struggles and control issues which Uranus will prompt you to break away from.  The New Moon tied in with these two suggests a new beginning where you make the break, even though there will be some difficulties involved.  However, I've never known an Aries to not embrace a good challenge.  Thus, if you've had enough, this could be the time when you take action.

Which brings me to your sign ruler, Mars, which is in Gemini, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel.  He is unaspected, however, which makes him a bit of a wildcard.  You may have dozens of ideas but may not be able to choose between them.  With Mercury retrograde, this makes this a time to rethink and replan what you want as your final result.  You're slightly impulsive by nature unless you have a lot of planets in neighboring sign, Taurus, but this can result in frustration or acting too soon.  Once you decide on what you want then it's time to think things through and act upon it mentally as opposed to actually doing something.  Venus is trining Uranus from your 5th house of creativity, ego definition, self-expression, romance, children, entertainment and speculation.  She rules your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs and pleasures as well as your 7th house of relationships.  Mix and match all these areas to find which one means the most to you and you will probably discover what it is you want to pursue.  Just remember this is a time for planning.

Which brings me to that Grand Trine.  It's not exact yet, that happens on July 17, but its presence for the New Moon gives it a kick-start.  Remember that Water Signs have a strong emotional component.  Jupiter is in your home base and expanding the possibilities there for those things near and dear to your heart.  He is lucky, expansive, and rules your 9th house of beliefs and expectations.  The trine to Saturn in Scorpio relates to your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, intense and life-changing experiences, shared resources, debt and things you repress or hide.  Saturn just came out of retrograde which fits in nicely.  While retrograde, which occurs for about 5 months every year, Saturn works on something at the subconscious level.  Then when he goes direct this issue rises to your conscious mind and instructs you on something that needs to be rebuilt or restructured.  Thus we have Jupiter's expansive influence tied in with Saturn's influence to rebuild something that will have a significant influence on your life.  The final component is Neptune in Pisces, the sign he rules and thus where he's in dignity, allowing him to function very efficiently.  This is your 12th house which comprises dreams, visions, enlightenment, inspiration, institutions, seclusion, confinement, hidden enemies and self-undoing.  In this configuration he is more likely to operate in the positive portion of his domain and contribute insights and visions related to what you need to rebuild and expand.

So that is how that Grand Trine is operating for you.  Take note and apply it accordingly to your circumstances.  Note that the Grand Trine has all the planets in the same degree of their respective signs on July 17 (July 18 for those of you on the other side of the International Dateline or IDL.)  That makes that day an excellent one for pondering your situation and putting together the plans necessary to achieve your goal.  Uranus is the modern ruler of your 11th house of groups and goals so along with that sense of rebellion or the need for freedom, don't try to do everything on your own plus establish it as an actual goal you define.  However, about that time you may get some flack from the homefront.  New considerations may come up that send you back to the drawing board.  Opposition from your career or status is likely to occur as well along with a need to let go of something that is easier said than done.  Control to a satisfying level may not be possible at this time but it can hold you back so be sure to count the cost and weigh your options.

The Full Moon on July 22 is in Aquarius, your 11th house of friends, groups, organizations, goals, hopes and wishes.  By this time Mercury is no longer retrograde so the rethinking phase should be complete.  A Full Moon usually indicates an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase.  Venus in Virgo is in your house of work, health, service and pets and vying for you to change directions.  Venus is in fall in this sign, however, where she can get lost in too much detail and be too critical.  This needs to change or you may remain stuck.  You need to maintain balance between being too idealistic and too worried about details.  Remember that Grand Trine is still in effect.  There are also two T-squares to contend with.  One involves the lunation itself with Saturn at the apex.  The Sun is transiting your 5th house of ego definition, creativity, children and such as defined earlier and will bring emphasis to this part of your life which you need to balance out with your goals and such.  Saturn is after you to do some rebuilding and restructuring which is going to take some effort and have life-changing implications.

The other T-square involves the Uranus - Pluto square again with Uranus now parked on the natal Sun of those born around April.  The final leg involves Jupiter, Mars and Mercury in your 4th house which again suggests the need to balance home and career as well as what you want and your needs with the other people in your life.  Mars and Jupiter are conjunct, wanting to move forward in new directions but letting go of something is likely to be required.  This is a time for creative problem solving and pursuing what you want and need while continuing to meet your responsibilities.  This is not easy.  However, unless you are entirely enamored with the status quo then a change is required.  Taking a close look at your priorities can lend some clues what they may be.

Now for that Grand Sextile which occurs on July 29 (July 30 on the other side of the IDL).  Since the Moon is one of the components it won't last for very long.  It's quite rare and worth looking at the chart to get a visual impression of the energy distribution.  As you can see the aspect lines look similar to the facets on a cut gemstone.  We already talked about that Grand Water Trine and this now incorporates a Grand Earth Trine as well.  Emotional and physical stability are natural themes from these two elements. There are also three Mystic Rectangles and various oppositions.  If you're a March Aries you are most likely to feel some effects of this, possibly as a fated push in a new direction.  Sextiles usually denote an opportunity and as they ripple around the entire zodiac the implication is that they will have a common focal point which again implies the need for balance of all forces.  Mystic Rectangles often indicate mutual exclusive opportunities where a choice is required.  In other words, you can't have your cake and eat it, too.  This is where the oppositions come in and require negotiations.  You may feel as if you're being torn in too many directions and they all may be good, sort of like being at a buffet with all your favorite foods but a plate the size of a saucer that you are only allowed to fill once.  This is likely to be a decision point.  Make some time on this particular date for quiet contemplation of what it is trying to tell you about your current direction.  It may confirm where you're currently headed or send you back to the drawing board.

Due to its rather short duration due to the involvement of the Moon you may want to do so at the time it's in effect which is 18:39 GMT which translates to 1:39 p.m. EDT, 12:39 p.m. CDT, 11:39 a.m. MDT and 10:39 a.m. PDT.  Those of you in other countries will need to figure it out for yourself or drop me an email and I'll let you know.
