Lunations and Long-term Aspects

This is a rather busy and unique month astrologically with more worth noting than the New and Full Moon.  First of all there's a new Grand Water Trine which has a bit more punch than the fleeting ones that came and went last month.  They were created by the long-term trine between Saturn and Neptune being joined by fast-movers like Venus, Mercury and the Sun as they made their way through Cancer.  They have since moved on but right around the first of July Jupiter entered Cancer and assumed the role as the third component.  This is important for a couple reasons.  One, Jupiter moves slower, taking about a year to transit each sign, so it will be of longer duration.  Furthermore, Jupiter is one of the "outer planets," i.e. beyond Earth's orbit and thus one of the social planets that defines the themes of your life as well as the mundane scene.  More on its meaning will be covered below.  Another event which is quite rare will be an aspect pattern known as a Grand Sextile on July 29.  This one will not last in its entirety for long since one component is the Moon but nonetheless it is an interesting planetary configuration worth pondering.  More on it will follow as well.  But first, the New Moon.

The New Moon on July 8 is in fellow Cardinal Sign, Cancer, your 10th house of career, status, public image and reputation.  Remember that "status" covers a multitude of possibilities, essentially anything you might post on Facebook, appear in the newspaper or public record, or involve an honor or its antithesis such as being arrested or fired.  If your birthday is right around October 10 the lunation will square your natal Sun and have more significance.  It forms a sloppy but viable T-square with that Uranus - Pluto square which has some potential for pulling in other birthdays ranging from October 3 - 11 and creating a Cardinal Grand Square.  If this is you it has the potential to be a rather intense month.  Those earliest birthdays are currently experiencing a Pluto square to their natal Sun.  With Pluto in your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots, endings and new beginnings you will be experiencing a variety of transformational events and situations.  It's also quite useful for all sorts of housecleaning, figuratively and literally.  Cleaning frenzies in the garage, attic or that hall closet are use yet benign manifestations while dealing with skeletons in the closet get a bit more interesting.  Uranus is in Aries, your 7th house of relationships including your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners and professionals, cliental, competitors and open enemies.  Relationships are very important to Libras who tend to derive their own identity and place in the world from the people around them.  Uranus in this house is going to stir up a few things which are likely to come out of the blue.  Unusual people and situations are likely as well as perhaps a sense of rebellion or the need to break away.

When you construct that square between Uranus and Pluto and thus combine the effects you have the potential for some interesting situations which could be ignited by this New Moon.  The simplest delineation is that something unresolved from the past, perhaps all the way back to your childhood, demands resolution.  Breaking free from old baggage isn't necessarily easy but is supported by this aspect which could force you to confront whatever it is.  Librans don't like confrontations as a rule but prefer to maintain a sense of peace.  However, you can also be supremely vindictive when your sense of fairness evolves into "an eye for an eye."  Your ego can be quite fragile and when hurt you can lash out in a vicious way.  If this sounds familiar and you're already counting the reasons to justify your position stop for a moment and count the cost its extracting from you in negative energy.  Hate and resentment fester away inside and can literally cause disease.  It's not healthy, physically, mentally or emotionally.  It may not be easy to let it go but for your own sake and that of karma it is in your best interest to do so.  I have found personally that forgiving someone, even if they deserve your wrath, allows the wounds to heal.

As it's been said a thousand times such feelings only hurt you, not the person they're directed toward.  There are various techniques to achieve forgiveness.  Of course you can't just let it go instantaneously.  One is the "490" method based on the Biblical admonition to forgive 70 x 70.  This method involves writing down 490 things the person has done to hurt you prefaced by "I forgive (their name) for."  Usually you run out of specifics by the time you reach 30 or 40 in which case you finish out the remaining slots with a simple "I forgive (their name) and release you to your highest good."  Then you ceremoniously burn the papers, watch the smoke rise into the air and let it all go.  I know it sounds a bit corny but trust me, it works, and I recommend it.  Yes, while you're remembering all that nasty stuff the feelings come back and you will be angry, hurt, betrayed or whatever all over again.  But this is part of the Plutonian process to unearth such things so the corruption inside can be released, allowing healing to take place much as you would lance a boil.  Thus, if you're dealing with such emotions this could be the time to rid yourself of them once and for all.

Your sign ruler, Venus, is in Leo, your 11th house of friends, networking, groups, organizations, goals, hopes and wishes.  She is trining Uranus which is a great indicator and cosmic assistance for letting go.  If your birthday is right around October 6 this is forming a Triangle of Potential with your natal Sun.  This aspect pattern involves as expected three planets, two in opposition and thus creating tension which is mediated by the third party, in this case Venus, natural ruler of love and relationships.  There couldn't be a better helper for achieving forgiveness.  'Nuff said.

Other planets in your 10th house besides the New Moon include Mercury retrograde, an excellent aspect for rethinking and reconsidering something related to this part of your life, as well as Jupiter, who entered Cancer June 27.  This is the sign of his exaltation where his expansive nature is supported and uninhibited.  This can bring luck, confidence and expansion to this part of your life, even if he squares your natal Sun.  All that means is that there may be some effort or challenge involved.  Nothing worth doing comes easily and the satisfaction derived is unequalled by anything handed to you on a silver platter.  Jupiter transiting your 10th is an excellent time to advance your career.  As noted earlier, Jupiter is also part of that Grand Water Trine.  Libra is not all that compatible with Water Signs.  The usual pairing of astrological elements is Air and Fire, Earth and Water.  For a figurative explanation of how they interact you can go here on this website.  This is basically because you favor logic over emotion at your core.  Of course if you have several planets or especially the Moon in a Water sign then you will have this emotional component but it is likely to conflict with your basic energy and make you uncomfortable.  Thus, this Grand Water Trine could bring a similar effect.  Yes, Jupiter in your 10th can have an expansive effect on your career but also your status as in Facebook.  Get the idea?  So let's look at the other components.

Saturn in nextdoor neighboring sign, Scorpio, is one of them.  Saturn just came out of retrograde the day before the New Moon and is in your 2nd house of possessions, income, finances, needs, pleasures, and what you value.  Scorpio is the most passionate of signs and deeply emotional.  It's not much of a stretch to consider that "needs" include emotional security.  And this could be the source of that vindictive streak you may have.  While retrograde Saturn is stirring up your subconscious and preparing you to confront something that needs to be rebuilt or restructured.  Now that he's gone direct it will float to the surface of your conscious mind and expect you to deal with it.  Neptune is the final member of this Grand Trine and he's in Pisces, your 6th house of work, health, service and pets.  Neptune is in dignity in Pisces, the sign he rules, so he can also function to full capacity.  This combination is full of compassion, idealism, imagination, inclusion, dreams, visions, inspiration and so forth.  They can also be delusional and unrealistic but with a trine the more positive nature is more likely to come out.

Note, however, that Neptune in the 6th may bring a variety of health issues that are hard to identify or diagnose.  He also rules allergies so you may experience problems in that area.  If you're not feeling up to par be sure to seek medical help.  If you're in a line of work that involves imagination this can be a wonderful placement.  Neptune can be quite a demotivator, though, and can also sap your energy.  So if your "get up and go, got up and went" this could be the cause.  On the other hand, this is a great placement for charitable service and helping others which you will find very satisfying.  It can also be helpful for achieving peace that you feel at the physical level.  Neptune in turn completes the Grand Trine with Jupiter in the 10th, implying that this charitable nature can have a positive effect on your public image.  This Grand Trine is at its most powerful influence on July 17 (July 18 for those of you on the other side of the International Dateline or IDL) when each of the planets is in the same degree of their respective signs.  Mars is conjunct Jupiter at that time which can be a great motivator to take action on whatever message it has for you, but remember Mercury is still retrograde, indicating reconsiderations and such.  Pluto is opposing the midpoint between Jupiter and Mercury, a time to reconsider past issues in a philosophical way.  Use this energy while it's there, it will make what you have to do easier to accomplish even though it probably won't be painless.  However, you will ultimately feel much better.

The Full Moon on July 22 is in fellow Air Sign, Aquarius, and trines your natal Sun if you birthday is right around September 23.  This, of course, is a "cusp day" which is sometimes Virgo and sometimes Libra, depending on the time of day and year.  So this assumes that you're a Libra.  Aquarius is your 5th house of ego definition, creativity, children, romance, entertainment and speculation and suggests an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase of something in this part of your life.  The Sun is now in your 11th house of friends, goals, and groups and highlighting this part of your life with possible opportunities.  The lunation forms a T-square with Saturn, discussed earlier as in the progress of rebuilding something in your house of income, possessions or especially needs and pleasures.  If you've been working too hard and not enjoying life as you should the message here may be to seek for more of that Libran balance in your life.  Treat yourself kindly, indulge yourself a little, and don't always put others' needs ahead of your own.  This is not to say you should be selfish but you do need to take care of yourself, otherwise others will take advantage of you until you are entirely burned out.  Make it a goal to do something for yourself and then make it a habit.

Venus has entered Virgo, your 12th house of inspiration, subconscious, dreams, visions, seclusion, confinement, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing and is opposing Neptune.  This is good for pondering your current job and whether it is a good fit for you.  If you're having health problems it's good for obtaining inspiration regarding what the source is.  Listen carefully to what your intuition is telling you.  It's your body and you are entitled to this information.  I have had promptings of that variety that simply made a particular nutrient or supplement pop into my head.  Try it, especially during this aspect.  The Grand Trine is still in effect, so all of that still applies.  By this time Mercury has gone direct so the time for rethinking and reconsidering is over with it time to make some decisions.  Mercury is now in a T-square with Pluto and Uranus.  You are certainly smart enough to put all the pieces together and if not simply reread the portion about about this ongoing square which is going to last on and off until Spring 2015.

And now, if you're still with me, let's talk about that Grand Sextile on July 29 (July 30 for those of you on the other side of the IDL).  First of all, I want you to take a moment and look at the chart for this event.  Even if you're not an astrologer I think you can get the idea of what is going on and why it's important.  As you can see it resembles the facets on a cut gemstone.  When you think about what gem cutting achieves with the reflection of life it should help you perceive the potential for this energy mix.  As a Libra you should love the sense of balance and symmetry.  Sextiles are "soft" aspects which usually indicate an opportunity.  This implies six opportunities, all connected, emanating from this planetary configuration!  Note that the Grand Water Trine is not only still there but now accompanied by a Grand Earth Trine.  This is formed by the Moon which, as noted earlier, won't be there for long.  Thus if you want to meditate or ponder this event while it's in effect you'll want to find out the time for your location.  It's 06:39 in Greenwich, i.e. 18:39 GMT.  This equates to 1:39 p.m. EDT, 12:39 CDT, 11:39 MDT, 10:39 PDT, etc.  Sorry, but the rest of you folks in the world will have to figure it out for yourself based on how many hours east or west you are from the prime meridian.  If you really want to know drop me an email and I'll let you know.

So, back to the Grand Sextile.  You probably already figured out that these two Grand Trines favor Water and Earth, those elements you're not as in tune with as others.  The Sun and Moon are in nearly exact square with each other which is the last quarter phase when head and heart are often not in synch.  The Sun, however, is in Leo and trining Uranus which can bring some brilliant flashes in the form of brainstorms, perhaps via someone you know well.  The Sun and Moon are forming a T-square with Saturn, so that lightbulb going off in your head could relate to Saturn's work restructuring either your material, physical or emotional well-being.

Buried even further in this conglomeration of aspects are three Mystic Rectangles which provide three oppositions.  What they often indicate is two mutually exclusive opportunities which in this case may be even more.  Think of going to an elegant buffet with all your favorite foods but all you're given in a saucer which you can fill once.  This could be the situation, where a multitude of opportunities present themselves but you can choose only one.  There is also likely to be a need for balance, something that Librans do naturally.  The Moon is in your 8th house of transformations, intense experiences, death and rebirth, sex, debt, shared resources and things you suppress.  She's opposing Saturn, your remodeling contractor which implies being good to yourself on perhaps a new level.  Jupiter and Mars are looking for action out in public and opposing Pluto, all those unresolved issues or hidden problems on the homefront, past or present.  What can you do about these matters as they relate to who you are in public?  Last but not least is Venus opposing Neptune, perhaps the friendliest of the three, with Venus trying to soften your critical nature so that some compassion can enter.  This could be a time of dramatic and important breakthroughs, particularly on the emotional level.  This can be scary but is likely to open up new vistas which can ultimately also feed those needs you've kept buried as illogical.  Put these energies to good use toward your continued personal growth.
