Lunations and Long-term Aspects This month is a busy one astrologically with a few things worth noting other than the usual New and Full Moons. One is a Grant Water Trine that has a little more punch than the fleeting ones seen in June. Those were formed as fast-movers including Venus, Mercury and the Sun hooked up with that Saturn - Neptune trine as they proceeding on their way through Cancer. Jupiter has now entered that sign, which represents the sign of his exaltation where his expansive energies can reach full expression, and is now taking his place as the third component. The other is a rare planetary configuration known as a Grand Sextile which will occur on July 29 (July 30 for those of you on the other side of the International Dateline or IDL). This one will be somewhat fleeting since one component is the Moon, but nonetheless it is a rather interesting astrological event. More on both follows, but first the New Moon. The New Moon occurs on July 8 in Cancer, your 8th house of transformations, intense experiences, sex, death and rebirth, debt, shared resources and things you suppress. This suggests a new life-changing or important event coming your way which is likely to have deep, emotional impact. The lunation forms a sloppy but viable T-square with that Uranus - Pluto square which has been stirring things up so much lately which implies it will have an influence on whatever this event or situation is going to be. Pluto is in Capricorn, your 2nd house of income, finances, possessions, needs, pleasures and things you value, including yourself. It also includes your body as your most important and intimate possession. Pluto is the ultimate investigative reporter or whistleblower who is currently snooping around conducting an audit on this part of your life. Uranus is in fellow Fire Sign, Aries, your 5th house of ego definition, creativity, romance, children, entertainment and speculation. Uranus is unpredictable by nature and rules such things as rebellions, explosions, breakthroughs, lightning, tornadoes, surprises, unexpected events, technology and so forth. This can be a great influence for your creative endeavors, bringing individuality, uniqueness and unconventional energies to that part of your life. If nothing else he is never boring, which is something you'll probably like. However, the square to Pluto, which is transiting your 2nd house, could set off a few you-know-what storms that could affect your income. One current news item that comes to mind on that one is the recent Paula Deen situation. I don't have her birth time but enough information to see that last month's New Moon didn't do her any favors. Not only was the lunation conjunct her natal Uranus but that Uranus - Pluto square hit her chart like a train. Using natural houses, Uranus rules her 2nd house of income and Venus rules her 10th house of career with both receiving heavy transits. I digress, but you get the idea. On the positive side, Venus is in fellow Fire Sign, Leo, and trining your natal Sun if your birthday is right around December 4. This is your 9th house, a special place for Sag as ruler of that house of the zodiac. It includes things near and dear to your heart such as higher learning, philosophy of life, beliefs and expectations, other cultures, long-distance travel, legal matters and relocation. She is also trining Uranus in Aries, creating a Grand Fire Trine for those of you born at that time which could bring a pleasant surprise your way (hopefully more pleasant than the little surprise Paula had.) The Grand Water Trine is in effect with Jupiter in Cancer as previously noted. Mercury is retrograde in that same sign which implies rethinking, reconsidering, redoing or re-something is called for in this part of your life, perhaps pondering a past event that had an important impact on you. Jupiter and that Grand Trine should be helpful in processing it at the emotional level. So let's see what the other components are up to. Saturn is in Scorpio, your 12th house of dreams, visions, spirituality, inspiration, enlightenment, subconscious, seclusion, confinement, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing. He has just come out of retrograde the day prior to the New Moon and is ready to reveal what his mission was while retrograde, when he typically operates on the subconscious level. The Grand Trine should help elevate this information to your conscious mind and feed into that transformative energy. Neptune is the final component and he's in dignity in Pisces, your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots, endings and new beginnings. Note that this Grand Trine falls in your 4th, 8th and 12th houses which are known as the "Endings" houses. These are where important lessons come to bear and bring us to a new phase in our understanding of the world. Bear that in mind over the next month or so, particularly on July 17 (July 18 for those of you on the other side of the IDL) when all three planets are in the same degree of their respective signs and thus the peak of its influence. Those of you born November 27 are most likely to have the strongest effects at this time. Mercury is still retrograde and therefore introspective so if something has been bothering you this would be a good time to ponder what it is and an appropriate solution while you have some cosmic assistance. The Full Moon on July 22 occurs in Aquarius, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings and neighbors. A Full Moon usually brings an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase. Meanwhile the Sun is transiting your 9th house of beliefs and expectations, perhaps bringing new information to your attention that will ultimately has an effect on your core beliefs. This lunation forms a T-square with Saturn in your 12th house as described earlier and provides a bit of a tweak in the direction of that Grand Trine. Mercury has now gone direct (thank heavens) and is in a T-square with that Uranus - Pluto duo. Now it's time to process whatever that square is trying to unearth in your life which is likely to be a catalyst for those changes to your core beliefs. We all evolve with time based on gathering knowledge and experience throughout our lifetimes. Changing your mind from time to time is not only advisable but required as you see things in a different light. Fortunately, being a Mutable Sign facilitates this. Venus has entered Virgo, sign of her fall where Virgo's critical, detailed nature gets in the way of basic nature. She's opposing Neptune from your 10th house of career, reputation, public image and status (like in Facebook). Venus rules your 6th house of work, health, service and pets which has a natural connection with your 10th. Venus in this venue is a favorable influence and a good time to ask for a raise, give a presentation and so forth. Neptune in your 4th which includes your home environment, memories, cultural roots, endings and beginnings, has an esoteric feel to it. Neptune can be inspirational but also delusional so the message here could be to maintain an appropriate balance between your dreams for the future and what is required to get there. On the other hand, in order to pursue your dreams various motivational speakers who specialize in manifesting what you want (such as Dr. Robert Anthony, source of the link at the top whom I personally think is outstanding) state that worrying about "how" to achieve your goals is self-defeating. Maybe the balance needed here is in the direction of visualizing more and worrying about the details less. Venus is also quincunx the Moon, an aspect that calls for a change of direction or adjustment to your thoughts. Give it some thought. Now for that Grand Sextile on July 29 at 18:39 GMT. I recommend you take a look at the chart first since its visual appearance alone is key to its understanding. As you can see it has the appearance of the facets on a cut gemstone which suggests a similar reflection of energy to that of light. A sextile typically indicates an opportunity and in this case there are six of them, each connecting an Earth and a Water sign. The Grand Water Trine is still in effect and it is joined by a Grand Earth Trine with the combination of these two elements suggestive of emotional security. Fire Signs aren't entirely neglected, however, due to placement of the Sun in Leo and Uranus in Aries which are in trine, albeit a wide one. If your birthday is between November 28 - December 5 your natal Sun forms a Grand Fire Trine with these two planets which will help facilitate connecting with this energy. It's interesting that the Sun and Moon are in almost exact square which constitutes the last quarter phase of the waning Moon. This can bring a conflict between your head and heart, logic and intuition. There are also three aspect patterns known as Mystic Rectangles in there which call attention to the fact there are also three oppositions. What often occurs with a Mystic Rectangle is two opportunities which are mutually exclusive in some way or require a compromise. So this aspect could be all about making a difficult choice, similar to going to an elegant buffet with all your favorite foods only to be handed a plate the size of a saucer and the admonition you can only fill it once. Or it could be about balance. First of all there is the conjunction between your sign ruler, Jupiter, and Mars in Cancer, a call to action in your 8th house of transformations but this is opposing Pluto in your 2nd of income, possessions and needs. One note of caution that Mars transiting your 8th can predispose you to accidents so don't take any unnecessary chances until at least August 29. This implies that taking action is going to require a transformational change in what you value. If you hate your job but stay with it because it pays well, maybe it's time to re-evaluate what's most important. Quality of life is not all about money. Then there's the opposition between the Moon and Saturn. The Moon is in Taurus, your 6th house of work, service, health and pets. The Moon is exalted in Taurus where comforts and pleasures rank high. Perhaps this is another call to consider this part of your life and whether it delivers adequate emotional satisfaction. Saturn, on the other hand, is all about responsibility, your obligations and authority. Needless to say if you are encumbered by debt and financial obligations (8th house, by the way) then downgrading your job to one that pays less is certainly not an option. The final opposition is between Venus and Neptune. Venus as noted earlier is in Virgo where she's in fall and Neptune is in Pisces where he is in dignity. This again brings a conflict between dreams of a fresh start (or perhaps delusions) versus examining the financial facts of your status. This all appears as if job issues are first and foremost and having a strong effect on your happiness quotient. You also appear to be caught between a rock and a hard place. However, there is always a solution, even if it's simply a change in attitude, which the Sun in Leo could illuminate. Use these cosmic influences to thoroughly investigate and understand your situation, possible options and ultimately arrive at a course of action that will lead you toward what you're looking for. At any rate you might want to ponder what the energy feels like. Because of its rather short duration due to the involvement of the Moon you may want to do so at the time it's in effect which is 18:39 GMT which translates to 1:39 p.m. EDT, 12:39 p.m. CDT, 11:39 a.m. MDT and 10:39 a.m. PDT. Those of you in other countries will need to figure it out for yourself or drop me an email and I'll let you know. |
