Lunations and Long-term Aspects

The New Moon this month on May 9 (or May 10th, depending on where you live) is in Taurus, your 8th house of transformations, sex, death and rebirth, inheritances, debt, shared resources, other people's money and intense experiences that change you in some way.  It is also a solar eclipse which can be seen along a narrow path across the South Pacific and parts of Northern Australia, which will strengthen its effects for those who can observe it.  It's an annular eclipse, not total, which means the Moon won't quite cover the Sun but leave a ring still visible due to the fact the Moon is farther away and thus too small to occlude it entirely.  Nonetheless, it will be much more powerful than the usual garden-variety lunation.

The typical astrological conjunction only means that two or more cosmic entities are in the same zodiacal degree or within a designated orb or distance of that degree.  They can be separated by several degrees above or below each other which is a measure known as declination.  However, for an eclipse or transit of the Sun by Mercury or Venus to occur, they also need to be at the same declination or in the crosshairs, so to speak.  Thus, from a geocentric view, they are truly conjoined, one usually occulting the other in the case of an eclipse or visible on the face of the Sun in the case of a transit.  When they are lined up in both directions the contact is much more intense and thus more powerful as far as its influence is concerned which also means it will last for a longer time, probably because the declination lasts for some length of time after both leave the zodiacal degree.  Declination has meaning in astrology but it's not talked about much and not used by too many astrologers on a regular basis.

An eclipse in your house of transformations is likely to bring something significant and potentially life changing into your life.  If your birthday is right around October 13 the eclipse will quincunx your natal Sun which suggests an important change of direction.  Jupiter is semisextile the eclipse from your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, higher learning, long-distance travel, religion, politics, other cultures, relocation, and legal matters which suggests that this change of heart may result from an experience in this part of your life or perhaps vice versa, that some experience will change how you see the world or even think in general.

Saturn is still retrograde in nextdoor neighboring sign, Scorpio, your 2nd house of income, possessions, finances, needs and pleasures where he is busily restructuring something in that venue.  His trine to Neptune in Pisces, your 6th house of work, health, service and pets, implies that some inspiration with regard to your job could have an affect on your income, which doesn't seem like rocket science that those two areas could tie into each other.  Your sign ruler, Venus, is squaring Neptune, however, from fellow Air Sign, Gemini, your 9th house of beliefs again as described above.  This seems to imply that your current set of beliefs or other circumstance related to that part of your life can hold back that inspiration related to work.  This smells like lack of vision coupled with your current set of beliefs and expectations.  As a logical Air Sign this is quite likely since inspiration is not always something with a rationale explanation.  If you can possibly believe in the concept that "thoughts become things" and visualize what you want, then reinforce it daily, even if it seems farfetched, you can probably overcome this challenge.

Uranus and Pluto are in a long-term square from fellow Cardinal Signs Aries and Capricorn, respectively.  If your birthday is around October 4 - 6 this will form a T-square with your natal Sun.  Pluto transiting your 4th house of home environment, memories, cultural roots, endings and new beginnings will tend to unearth anything lurking there that needs to be resolved.  Uranus in your 7th house of close relationships which includes not only your significant other but other close friends and relatives, business partners, business professionals and competitors, will stir up all sorts of surprises in that part of your life which will then activate related memories or home situations you need to deal with.  Since Libras thrive on harmony and detest discord and confrontations, this could be a tough one to swallow.  Ignoring it won't make it go away, however, and the sooner you take care of business the sooner the bad feeling will go away.

For this eclipse Mars is separating from a trine to Pluto which may help get you motivated.  Mars is in your 8th house, which is a somewhat unfortunate placement.  This is a time when you need to exercise caution and good judgment since among other things this can make you more inclined toward accidents or illness than usual.  With Mars in Taurus, however, sign of his ancient debility, he is slowed down a bit, sort of like trying to run on a sandy beach but able to attain slow but steady progress nonetheless.  Thus, the eclipse could trigger something that motivates you to take care of these other matters lurking behind the scenes.  Depending on how serious it is or how much it bothers you, seeking counseling may be a viable option.

The New Moon on May 24 (or 25th, depending where you live) is another lunar eclipse which will be visible in the USA unlike the one last month.  This one occurs in Sagittarius, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel.  Lunar eclipses tend to operate more on the emotional level while solar eclipses tend more to bring events and situations.  The Sun is in fellow Air Sign, Gemini so if your birthday is right around September 25 - 28 your natal Sun is at the apex of an aspect pattern known as a Triangle of Potential.  With the Sun and Moon in opposition, the apex is sextile one and trine the other, favorable aspects, which help mitigate the opposition.  Thus, whatever challenge this eclipse may bring as far as your thoughts and beliefs are concerned, you are in a position to deal with it.

The Sun and Moon are forming a T-square, however, with Neptune, which implies that something related to your 6th house of work, health, service and pets may be contributing to the issue.  Neptune is all about deceit, delusions, illusions and not seeing things as they are.  Someone you work with may not be who and what they seem and thus cause a bit of a stir with regard to your thoughts and their ultimate affect on your belief system.  By now the Uranus - Pluto square is partile, i.e. in the same degree, so it is operative as well, stronger than ever.

The trine between Saturn and Neptune is still in effect but is now part of a closed loop aspect pattern also involving the Sun which is squaring Neptune and quincunx Saturn.  This ties together three parts of your life, Saturn restructuring your finances or needs; Neptune causing delusions at work; and the Sun, highlighting your beliefs and expectations which then connects back with Saturn and your finances.  One way this could manifest would be to recognize that your current job is not going where you thought, that you're never going to earn what you expected you would and that you need to adjust your sights accordingly.  Mercury and Venus are partile conjunct in Gemini which should further enhance your ability to sort things out and Jupiter is there as well, adding a philosophical flavor as well.  There's a whole lot of mental and emotional activity out there this month so do your best not to get distracted, particularly if engaged in any hazardous activities including driving until Mars gets out of your 8th house which will be June 1.
