Lunations and Long-term Aspects The New Moon/Solar Eclipse on January 15 is a member of the same Saros Series 12 North Family as the Lunar Eclipse that occurred on New Years Eve/Day and thus has the same implications of providing the opportunity to assume more responsibility, possibly because someone is no longer able to do so. A solar eclipse typically involves events that are beyond your control yet affect you while a lunar eclipse is more on the internal or emotional landscape. This one occurs in Capricorn, your 12th House of spirituality, enlightenment, dreams, visions, confinement, seclusion, institutions, self-undoing, hidden enemies and inspiration. Since the 12th House includes hospitals, prisons, and such, they could come into play with regard to those new responsibilities. Remember that the effects of an eclipse can come about before it actually occurs or up to several months after. They are powerful astrological events that usually have some affect on your life. The planets are clustered largely in Capricorn and Aquarius for this eclipse with five plus the North Lunar Node in Capricorn and Neptune and Jupiter in Aquarius along with the asteroid, Chiron. There is a heavy emphasis on degrees between 21:07 - 29:23 so if you have one or more natal planets in the degree range, they will take a direct hit. Venus is conjunct the Sun/Moon pair which will have a favorable or softening effect. These are sextile your Sign Ruler, Uranus, who's in Pisces, your 2nd House of finance, possessions, pleasures and needs. Look to this for some possible inspiration with regard to your money situation or perhaps with regard to attaining something else you need. Mercury is stationing, in other words nearly standing still as he will come out of retrograde several hours later. Mercury affects your thoughts and movement with his retrograde cycle good for rethinking or revising previous plans. He is conjunct Pluto, who is more than likely rooting around in your 12th House like a bloodhound on a fresh scent looking for something you need to dig up and examine from your past. These two are square Saturn, also retrograde, in your 9th House of relocation, long-distance travel, higher learning, legal matters, beliefs and expectations where he's ruminating on something in this part of your life that needs to be restructured. Together this trio is likely to do some serious remodeling with regard to your integration of your beliefs and spiritual nature. Note that religion is in the 9th House and spirituality in the 12th. These two, which should be in synch with one another, may not be, so this is a favorable time to figure out why not. It's also interesting to note that legal matters are in the 9th as well. If you profess to be a spiritual person, yet are suing the stuffing out of someone, you might want to look at that as well. Another possibility is going back to school and laying the necessary groundwork for that to happen. Mars is another planet doing the backstroke during this eclipse over in Leo, your polar sign and 7th House. Mars retrograde targets unresolved issues that you should have taken action on previously but failed to do so. The 7th House comprises close relationships such as your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners, competitors, and open foes, so you have a target rich environment for unresolved issues. If your birthday is within a few days of February 4 this will have the most impact. It is especially important to take care of business or at least consider how you can during this time or you're not likely to be happy with the result. The Full Moon on January 30 occurs in Leo, your polar sign, and conjunct retrograde Mars, giving those relationship issues a one-two punch. This time if your birthday is within a few days of January 27 - February 3 you will be most affected. Remember that a Full Moon typically indicates a culmination or shift to a new phase, even if this is strictly on the mental plane. This time Aquarius is packed with players including the Sun, Venus, Neptune and the asteroid, Chiron. Most of them have been there for a while, but the Sun and Venus move through rather quickly, stirring things up along the way. Jupiter moved into Pisces on the 18th, promoting expansion of your financial interests or possessions. He is quincunx retrograde Saturn in your 9th House (defined earlier) which indicates an adjustment or change of course that relates to your finances and whatever is going on in the 9th such as going back to school, a major move, a legal issue, and such. Saturn is square Pluto, a hard aspect between hard planets, which will be in force for several months. Pluto is undoubtedly unearthing something in your past that has been swept under the rug and may represent an obstacle to what you want to do. Mars may be working on unresolved issues, but whereas he could be compared to a broom, Pluto is more of a backhoe. If any self-defeating behaviors past or present are holding you back, expect a stern lecture to come your way sometime soon. The good news is that cleaning up old messes will open up some opportunities so you'll be rewarded for good behavior. Short-term Aspects January 4: Watch for an "Aha!" moment of some sort that forces you to rethink a few things. This will open up some issues that will be further explored later as the month progresses. January 5: If your attitude toward love or money is holding you back in some manner, look for inspiration to find a way out today. January 7: Any unresolved issues that involve someone close to you may require a change of course as you gain deeper understanding of the situation. January 8: Time to make those adjustments or change course with that relationship, particularly if it has been holding you back. January 11: Further insights, understanding and enlightenment are free for the asking, so take advantage of it any way you can. January 13: Expect the unexpected in what should be a good way today. It could even be a small windfall of an emotional, physical or financial kind. Saturn goes retrograde today, starting those ruminations with regard to relocating, going back to school, that legal issue or simply with regard to your beliefs and expectations. January 15: New Moon/Solar Eclipse as noted above. Mercury goes direct today, making it safe once more to purchase something of a mechanical or electronic nature. Other mental endeavors will also move forward more easily. January 18: Venus goes into Aquarius which will have a positive effect on your personally, making others find you even more charming than usual. If you need to make a presentation, interview, or pursue anything that requires the help of others, now is a good time. Jupiter goes into Pisces today as well, which should have a favorable affect on your finances. January 20: The Sun goes into Aquarius, bringing light and emphasis to Aquarians. Your solar return is coming up soon, which will start a new cycle for you. January 22: Whatever those ruminations happen to be about school or what-have-you, watch for some lucky breaks, probably because someone finds you utterly charming. January 24: More information and emphasis should come your way today on that 9th House matter, whether it's school, something involving your beliefs or other cultures or whatever. January 25: More insights and possibly inspiration with regard to those unresolved relationship issues are possible. Find the time and a quiet place to find them. January 26: Use that charm to do some negotiating with that special someone or perhaps a business partner or other person close to you where you have those issues to address. At the least, plan it out what you can do to improve the situation. January 29: Don't let your ego get in the way of those negotiations. Be assertive but not overpowering. January 30: Full Moon as described above. January 31: Retrograde Saturn squares Pluto today, that hard aspect between two hard planets. This is where the rubber hits the road as far as those ruminations are concerned that relate to your spiritual essence, beliefs, any self-defeating behaviors, and possibly major changes that need to be made. If you don't know what they might be, something is likely to come along that rubs your nose in it, so pay attention. What will the coming year bring for you? Find out with a Solar Return Report!
