Lunations and Long-Term Aspects

This month brings the solar eclipse companion to the lunar eclipse that occurred on New Years Eve or Day, depending on where you happen to be.  Thus, it is also part of the 12 North family in the Saros Series and holds the same possibilities which include an increase in your responsibilities, perhaps due to the fact someone is unable to carry them any longer.  This eclipse occurs on January 15 in Capricorn, your polar sign and 7th House of close relationships, so this is likely to be where this would occur.  In other words, the person handing off would be someone close to you such as a significant other, close friend or relative or business partner.  Solar eclipses tend to bring events that you don't directly precipitate whereas lunar eclipses are typically more active on the internal or emotional landscape, which of course can sometimes motivate you to take action that triggers an event.  Solar eclipses, however, bring something your way courtesy of the Universe that you probably didn't have a part in planning or executing.

The fact that Venus is conjunct the Sun/Moon conjunction gives it pleasant possibilities, or it could indicate that the person involved is a loved one.  If more responsibilities do come your way, you can take comfort in the fact that the ultimate result will be positive, perhaps by showing you how much you're really capable of achieving.  If your birthday is roughly between July 15 - 21 this is likely to have the most impact.  Something (or someone) new is likely to come into your life in an unexpected manner, which could relate to something associated with your 9th House, which comprises such things as your beliefs and expectations, higher learning, legal matters, other cultures, long-distance travel or relocating.  This will ultimate bring an opportunity of some sort, so be on the lookout.

Mercury is stationing direct, meaning that he's coming out of retrograde but nearly stationary.  This will have the effect of winding up those reconsiderations and preparing to move forward once again, again with regard to a relationship.  Also remember that once Mercury is direct again that it is once again safe to purchase items of a mechanical or electronic nature; acquiring such things during a Mercury retrograde period tends to result in something that never quite functions properly.  Mercury is conjunct Pluto, the zodiacal roto-rooter, who is moving through your relationships like a backhoe, trying to get you to rid yourself of any individuals who no longer provide a positive influence in your life.  With Mercury conjunct, this should help your thought processes in this regard and provide fodder to either fix it or let it go.

This will be further strengthened by the fact these two are both square Saturn, also retrograde, in your 4th House of home environment.  Saturn retrograde stirs up various ruminations, usually at the subconscious level, regarding something that needs to be restructured.  Thus, all the implications are for fixing or eliminating a close, dysfunctional relationship that will make a significant difference in your homelife.  Saturn will be retrograde until the end of May so this is not something that will come to a conclusion this month, but a work in progress.  Eclipses have long-term effects, some of which can even become apparent before the eclipse actually occurs!  Don't ask how that can happen, other than the fact that every possible occurrence imaginable is actually the culmination of a chain of previous events, whether or not you were aware of them and their natural conclusion.

Mars is also retrograde, which typically works on clearing up unresolved issues.  These will typically be something that you should have taken action on sometime ago but didn't, so now Mars is reminding you that sweeping things under the rug is unacceptable in the astrological domain.  He's in Leo, your 2nd House of possessions, finances, self-worth, pleasures and needs, so if there is something amiss in that part of your life whether it's mismanagement of your checkbook or not taking enough time for yourself, now is the time to get that taken care of.

The Lunar South Node is in Cancer, which usually denotes something going out of your life.  If your birthday is right around July 12 - 16 this is likely to have the strongest effect.  This, of course, all ties into the other aspects and could easily apply to someone or something that really needs to go.  Your 8th House of transformations is occupied by Neptune, Jupiter and the asteroid, Chiron, which will help you further to see things differently, find the inspiration and enlightenment you need to grow, and then do what you need to do to make it so.

The Full Moon on January 30 occurs in Leo, again your 2nd House as described above.  A Full Moon typically denotes a culmination or shift to a new phase; this can simply be a change in attitude though it could also be more noticeable.  This is a handy follow-up to what Mars is trying to tell you about unresolved issues, particularly since the Moon in conjunct Mars for this lunation.  Saturn is still retrograde in your 4th House of home environment, stirring up ruminations of something that needs to be rebuilt.  By now Jupiter has moved into fellow Water Sign, Pisces, your 9th House of beliefs, expectations, higher learning, relocation, other cultures, legal matters and so forth.  He is quincunx Saturn, implying that something in this area will tie into what needs to be done at home and will nudge you toward a change of course.  Jupiter in turn is sextile Pluto, indicating opportunities await for cleaning house on those relationships that need attention.

Your 8th House of transformations is loaded at this time with the Sun, Venus, Neptune and the asteroid, Chiron, all drawing attention to this area.  Inspiration and insights are out there that may bring some disappointments, but facing reality ultimately will help you move forward on solid ground.  The emphasis all around is on taking better care of yourself in either a financial or physical sense and ridding yourself of any relationships that may be an energy drain.  This does not necessarily mean you need to rid yourself of these people, but resolving past problems and not letting them take advantage of you should be your goal.  If that can't be done, then you need to give some serious thought as to why you allow these individuals to be part of your life.  Just being related does not give them license to make you miserable or impede your progress, so use your Cardinal Sign assertion to do what you need to do.

Daily and Short-term Aspects

January 4 - 5:  Be on the lookout for an "Aha!" with regard to someone close to you.  This is most likely to relate to rethinking or reconsidering something.

January 7 - 8:  What course change do you need to institute that relates to both your finances and someone close to you?  Another possibility is that you need to take better care of yourself but may be too busy taking care of everyone else.  Just because you set your foot down doesn't mean you don't love them, only that it's okay to love yourself, too.

January 11:  Take a very close look at no less than one relationship today and be honest about what you see.  It could go either way and thus include good and bad, but carefully identify what's there and if the balance is appropriate.

January 13:  What are your core beliefs and expectations as they pertain to your loved ones?  What are theirs?  Do you each know what the other person's are?  There is no greater source of disappointment than not having your expectations met, but in all fairness, the other person needs to know what they are.  Saturn goes retrograde today in your 4th House of home environment, so let the ruminations begin.

January 15:  New Moon/Solar Eclipse as described above.  Mercury comes out of retrograde today.  If you've been using the RX energy properly to reconsider or rethink something, now is the time to put the revised plan or attitude into action.

January 18:  Venus goes into Aquarius, your 8th House of transformations, which also includes sex, death, and other people's money.  Venus rules relationships and money so expect something to come along that has a deep effect on you in one or both areas.  Jupiter goes into Pisces today, also, encouraging you to expand your horizons in some way such as going back to school or simply going somewhere you haven't been before, either geographically or philosophically.

January 20:  The Sun goes into Aquarius, which will bring even more emphasis to your 8th House and those deep and significant thoughts and ideas at work in that part of your life.  This could also signify a favorable time to look at your debt load or even apply for a loan or mortgage.

January 22 - 24:  Give considerable thought to your home as well as your investments in it, including material, emotional and psychological.  Is your attitude and that of the others what it should be?  This is a time to count your blessings while also identifying any areas that need improvement.  Let it start in your heart then migrate to your head.

January 25:  Thoughts or ideas related to a needed course change should come your way today.  Until you create it in your mind it won't become reality.

January 26 - 29:  A change within yourself is what is required in order to take care of those unresolved issues.  What needs to be done to make things different in the future?  How much of it is you and how much of it is them?

January 30:  Full Moon as described above.

January 31:  Retrograde Saturn squares Pluto today, which will make that energy working on your home relationships particularly strong.  It may be subconscious only, which may simply make you grumpy and restless.  If you don't know what's bothering you, spend some time thinking about your past, including your childhood environment, to identify any dysfunctional behavior patterns you may have picked up and replicated.
