Lunations and Long Term Aspects

This month brings another eclipse, this one of the solar variety, though it's part of the same 12 North family of the Saros Series as its lunar counterpart which occurred on New Years Eve or Day, depending on where you live. Lunar eclipses tend to affect you on the internal and emotional level whereas solar eclipses are more likely to bring events or situations into you life that you had nothing to do with. However, rest assured that those circumstances were evolving astrologically even if you weren't aware of them; there are no coincidences. The generic definition of this family of eclipses is that they bring more responsibility your way, usually because someone else is no longer able to do so.

This solar eclipse occurs on January 15 in Capricorn, your 5th House of ego definition, creativity, children, romance, speculation and entertainment. The Sun/Moon pair is conjunct Venus, which implies something favorable, and is especially likely to be felt by Virgos born roughly between September 15 - 21. The Lunar North Node is also in Capricorn, implying that something new is coming your way in this part of your life. All of these entities, i.e. Sun, Moon, Venus and the North Node, are all sextile Uranus in your polar sign, Pisces, your 7th House of close relationships. With Uranus the planet of surprises, unexpected events, disruptions and so forth, this indicates that someone close to you is going to throw something your way that you in your meticulous Virgo way had not planned on. However, a sextile typically denotes an opportunity, so this should have a favorable outcome.

Another aspect worth noting that accompanies this eclipse is a conjunction between your Sign Ruler, Mercury, and Pluto, which are both in Capricorn as well. When the eclipse occurs Mercury will be stationing, meaning he's getting ready to come out of retrograde. While RX his function is to push you to rethink, reconsider, re-plan or revise something related to the House he's in, which as noted earlier is your 5th. At this time this process is nearly complete, so moving forward again is imminent. Pluto will be very helpful in this case because he will help you to probe even deeper, uncover information that was previously hidden, or uncover something from your past that relates to your situation.

Pluto and Mercury, in turn, are square Saturn who's also retrograde in Libra, your 2nd House of finances, possession, self-worth, needs and pleasures. Saturn RX periods are quite lengthy. This one began on January 13 and will last until May 30. Their function is to set the stage for restructuring something that relates to the House being transited. This can be off your radar and strictly operating in your subconscious, though it is to your advantage to take note and see what you can do along those lines, being as you don't like surprises and prefer to plan ahead in laborious detail. This square indicates that whatever those reworked thoughts or ideas may be relative to your 5th House of creativity, children, romance and so forth are going to impact your finances in some way and require restructuring. Thus, it would behoove you to take a very close and typically-Virgo detailed look at your budget and see how you can improve it.

Another influence active for this eclipse is the fact that Mars is also retrograde over in Leo, your 12th House of spirituality, enlightenment, inspiration, confinement, seclusion, institutions, hidden enemies and self-undoing. Mars RX works on unresolved issues from the past that were either swept under the rug, procrastinated, ignored or left unfinished. This is a bit of a woo-woo House but you should have some idea what unfinished business you may have lurking in that part of your life. In case you don't, there's a good chance that the Full Moon on January 30 will help you figure that out.

That's because the Full Moon will be conjunct Mars RX. A Full Moon typically indicates an ending, culmination, or shift to a new phase and as implied earlier this is taking place in your 12th House of spirituality and so forth. Jupiter has moved into Pisces, your 7th House of relationships, by that time and is in cahoots with Saturn to make a few adjustments or course changes with regard to your finances. At this time there are numerous planets occupying your 6th House of work, indicating a lot going on in that venue as well.

Short Term Aspects

January 4 - 5: Now is a time for rethinking a few things with regard to your 5th House which includes your ego, children, romantic interests, entertainment, speculations and creativity. Target any areas where you may have missed something or need to change your plans.

January 7 - 8: When you figure out what needs to be revised with regard to your 5th House as described earlier, switch that over to any unresolved issues or unfinished business you may have with regard to your spirituality or those woo-woo 12th House areas that on the negative side include hidden enemies and self-undoing.

January 11: This has the potential to be a very favorable day. Put it to use any way you can.

January 13: Saturn goes retrograde today, which will start those rumination with regard to your financial situation. It's also the time to look at any areas where you've been too indulgent. Watch for something unexpected with regard to one or more close relationships, though these should bring an opportunity that relates to all that 5th House activity.

January 15: New Moon/Solar Eclipse today as described above. Mercury also goes direct, allowing you to move forward with any ideas you've been reconsidering of a creative nature.

January 18: Venus enters Aquarius, bringing her blessings to your 6th House of work. This will make you look even better than usual and may bring financial benefits your way. Jupiter goes into Pisces, bringing luck and perhaps some form of expansion to your relationships. Remember that relationships in the astrological context include your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners and associates, competitors and open enemies.

January 20: The Sun enters Aquarius, bringing further emphasis to your work, service, and health.

January 22 - 24: Favorable happenings at work will have a positive effect on your finances and that restructuring that needs to occur.

January 25: Take a close look at your ego today and whether it's been a bit more imposing than it should. If it's gotten you into any scrapes the past several months or years, now is a good time to rectify it in any way you can.

January 26 - 29: Take a close look at whatever is going on at work and how it applies to that unfinished business or unresolved issues. Getting along with the opposite sex may be a bit difficult today as well.

January 30: Full Moon as described above.

January 31: That Pluto - Saturn square is exact today but will linger on for several months and each planet takes its respective turn with retrograde motion. Nonetheless, this is a good day for figuring out what needs to be taken care of on the financial scene that relates back to your ego or past speculations in some way.
