New Moon

This month's New Moon on 7/8 April (depending on which side of the International Dateline you happen to be on) is in Aries.  This lunation is conjunct Uranus, which should bring an unexpected, innovative or surprise element to whatever comes into your life.  Aries is a Cardinal sign that is action-oriented and also impulsive, so this energy will be inherent to its influence as well.  This cosmic triplex is squaring Pluto in Capricorn, which suggests difficulties letting go of the past, something that needs to be eliminated, or conflicts with someone or something in control or power.  On the positive side, the triplex trines Saturn in Sagittarius.  With Saturn retrograde since last month, there could be delays involved which should work to your advantage.  This gives more time for planning and finding the unique approach that may be required to succeed.  Note, however, that later this month Mars as well as Mercury stations retrograde which is going to have a negative effect on getting anything off the ground.  More on those retrograde below in the "Other Cosmic Events" section.

Mars is in Sagittarius as well but squaring Neptune in Pisces which suggests false starts and possibly lacking a clear vision of where you're trying to go or perhaps being unrealistic.  Saturn is helping the lunation itself, but squaring Jupiter, also retrograde, in Virgo, which implies conflicts with philosophical matters.  Saturn is the establishment which is resisting input contrary to its intent.  Jupiter is in the sign of his traditional debility where his expansive nature is overwhelmed by detail and criticism.  Every time he tries to move forward, there's a reason it can't be done.  Nonetheless, Pluto is trining Jupiter, trying to help root out corruption.  Jupiter's opposition to Neptune indicates idealism and being unrealistic isn't going to help and will ultimately hold things back, particularly with Neptune also being squared by Mars. Mercury is in Taurus which will make thoughts and communications move at a slower pace.  Taurus is the poster child for stubbornness and an Earth Sign that keeps things grounded in reality, which will come to bear on Mercury's influence with going retrograde not helping any forward movement. 

Full Moon

The Full Moon on 22/23 April is in Scorpio, opposing the Taurus Sun.  Both are Fixed Signs which implies resistance to change.  Remember that a Full Moon typically brings an ending, culmination or shift to a new phase, but this will probably be impeded by the nature of the signs. Delays are also indicated by the fact three planets station retrograde this month.  The lunation itself doesn't involve any planetary action directly, though there's a lot of editorializing going on between them.  Debilitated Venus in Aries is conjunct Uranus, suggesting sudden or unexpected encounters with past lovers due to the square to Pluto.  Venus is the natural ruler of love and money, so this could involve past debts as well, perhaps arriving as an annoying bit of news or information related to past (or past due) responsibilities.  Owning up to them is favored, even if it takes a lot of discipline to do the right thing.

Jupiter's function at the ethics level, trying to balance idealism with practicality, is still in force, with progress deadlocked even tighter than it was with the New Moon.  Mars is retrograde at this point and so is Pluto, making this a poor cosmic time to start a new endeavor or move forward generally.  Many actions taken when Mars is RX require redoing later or turn out to be poor decisions.  Items purchased at this time may function properly, though even that is in question with Mercury stationing retrograde in less than a week.  Such purchases often turn out to be futile in some way, either not meeting expectations or turning out not to be needed, causing you to question why you bought them in the first place. 

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

Mars, the planet that denotes taking action and also your sign ruler, stations retrograde on 17/18 April in Sagittarius, suggesting back-tracking and being stalled for a while.  If your birthday is right around March 29, this station will have a stronger effect and most likely relate to a 9th house matter such as a legal issue, higher learning, beliefs, expectations, long-distance travel (such as postponing a trip), politics, religion or other cultures.  Mars is participating in the deadlock represented by a T-square between Jupiter (ethics) and Neptune (idealism) and further exacerbated by his conjunction to Saturn RX, which typically brings delays, obstructions and boundary issues.  Considering this aspect pattern relates to ethics and philosophical issues, that throws a caution flag for definitive action that falls under that heading.  There's a Grand Earth Trine suggesting stability and practicality that could also relate to being stuck in the mud plus a quincunx between Mercury and Saturn showing information coming to light that indicates a change of course or direction, which could cause the delay.   Going back and redoing something over again is a basic theme of Mars RX, which could relate to love or money as noted for the Full Moon.  Taking a new approach, with respect to your attitude, if nothing else, is also indicated.

The next day, Pluto stations retrograde on 18/19 April.  This station squares your natal Sun if your birthday is right around April 7 and is likely to relate to your career or reputation in some way.  If you've been going head to head with someone like your boss, this is likely to make that confrontation either stagnate or take a different turn.  Pluto is in Capricorn where he's been residing for several years with several more to come.  This transit relates to things like corporate and government power grabs on one hand and exposing the corruption therein on the other.  You might want to read my blog on that subject here.  The station chart is very similar to the one for Mars, given it's only approximately 19 hours later.  The Moon is still in Virgo, so details are important to both while Pluto's station reinforces the Mars station as well as the Grand Trine related to stability.  The combination of these two planets suggests digging a few things up and defining a new approach to deal with them. Since Pluto excels at rooting out corruption, sort of like a cosmic Roto-rooter, this is something to watch for, especially with Mercury, ruler of communications involved, as well as Jupiter, dealing with those ethics issues.  The Moon's inclusion brings an emotional element that could lean toward being critical or perfectionistic, as well as pushing to do something, even if it's wrong, with it likely to be directed toward backtracking more than actual progress. 

Come 28/29 April, Mercury stations retrograde, something most people who have any interest in astrology beyond than their Sun sign, are familiar with.  This on hits your natal Sun with a minor aspect known as a semi-sextile if your birthday is right around April 13.  This aspect often brings friction or an annoyance which is likely to involve your 2nd house of money, income, finances, possessions, needs, comforts and pleasures.  The good news is that a semi-sextile is often a blessing in disguise meaning with some effort you can turn it to your advantage.

Otherwise, this will certainly not help matters much since communications get tangled up in the usual Mercury RX knots.  Mercury's sole aspect is a trine from the Moon in Capricorn, slightly downstream from Pluto, but close enough to consider a conjunction.  The Moon is in debility in Capricorn, her emotional nature chilled and pushed toward practicality, which will deliver that energy to Mercury in Taurus, suggesting cool, overly practical communications.  Mercury RX, as always, suggests rethinking or revising, so those chilly Cappy Moon vibes imply undoing something or perhaps a new direction, considering the quincunx from the Sun to Mars.  More surprises are likely, along with the potential for rebellion of some description, courtesy of Uranus, which is squaring both the Moon and Pluto.  Squares represent tension and in this case suggests a clash such as freedom versus control.  This aspect has been ongoing for quite a while and you don't have to look very hard to find its evidence in the news.  Remember that Mercury RX is good for redoing, revising, rethinking, reconsidering, and editing.  Activities such as purchasing a major appliance, automobile, anything with moving parts (even as simple as a cat box with a swinging door) is likely to go awry.  Repairing is usually okay.  But if something goes out, replacing it under Mercury RX may bring as many problems as it solves.  Waiting as long as you can after Mercury stations direct in May is your best bet.
