Full Moon

This month's Full Moon occurs in lively and intelligent Gemini and forms an aspect pattern known as a Mystic Rectangle with Uranus and Jupiter. This somewhat unusual aspect pattern comprises two trines, two sextiles, and two oppositions in a configuration that, you've probably already figured out, looks like a rectangle. It typically indicates situations that require balance while providing some means to determine what that comprises. In some cases, it will bring two choices  your way, both of which may be good, yet mutually exclusive. Kind of a "you can't have your cake and eat it, too" type of energy. This will require that you examine all facets of the situation and decide how you're going to deal with it. With Jupiter involved, you can expect that things will be exaggerated or perhaps a genuine big deal of some sort. Uranus typically brings surprises. Saturn is conjunct the Sun, so is also involved, which slows things down, requires structure and possibly could involve authority figures.

For example, you may be offered the job of your dreams, but it will require you to move somewhere you really don't want to go. Or you might win an all expenses paid vacation, but have to take it at a specified time that clashes with another event, such as your sister's wedding. Since this aspect spans four different houses, each will be involved, which can provide a hint of how this will manifest. To figure out which ones, if you're so inclined, one house is the one noted above for the Full Moon. Then count four houses from there (example, if lunation is in your 3rd house, then next planet will be in your 7th). Then from that one, count two houses (in previous example, this would be the 9th) and then another 4 from there (in this example, that would be the 1st). House definition links are near the top of the page, just below the retrograde planet listing.

Another aspect pattern, which ties in with the Mystic Rectangle, is a T-square that involves Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto. Pluto relates to power, control, the past, eliminating things you no longer need, anything that's been left unresolved and corruption. This suggests some stonewalling with regard to such things as breakups, possibly even nasty things like blackmail, or possibly just an old debt that raises its ugly head about the time you win the lotto. In the context of the conflict, that would introduce the choice of enjoying your winnings or cleaning up your credit score and perhaps your conscience. There's also a trine from Mars to the Moon, which suggests going with the most logical route as opposed to what you want, thanks to the Moon being in Gemini which tends to be logical. I have a natal Gemini Moon and more than once I've made decisions with my head that should have been made with my heart.

New Moon

The New Moon is on December 29 in Capricorn. That T-square mentioned above between Uranus, Jupiter (who at this point are in partile opposition, which means they're in the same degree of their respective signs, making the link stronger) and Pluto remains. Breaking away from old, unresolved issues is thus still on the table. However, there are plenty of favorable aspects in this lunation that could come to your assistance. Saturn is forming a Triangle of Potential with that Jupiter-Uranus opposition, suggesting that calling in a favor from a friend in a high place, taking responsibility and/or being exceptionally organized may help mitigate the situation. If this is a matter that actually involves a court of law, Saturn could represent the judge making a decision.

There are numerous sextiles operating, which tend to indicate opportunities. Mars is in a partile sextile with both the Sun and Moon, suggesting an opportunity to take action, perhaps one that's intuitive or inspired, given his placement in Pisces and conjunct Neptune. Mercury is conjunct the New Moon and sextile Mars, implying information that helps determine what you'll do. Venus in Aquarius is trining Jupiter in Libra, an aspect that suggests assistance from a friend (likely a female friend) or organization. Thus, if you've been stuck between a rock and a hard place, there is some hope out there that it can be resolved. However, there are a couple caveats, Mercury retrograde, which started December 19, and Uranus stationing direct (which happens a few hours after the New Moon) which are addressed below.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

Mercury stations retrograde on December 19, which means we'll start the New Year under that influence. I don't find that cause for celebration, that's for sure. Mercury RX suggests the need to go back and reconsider, redo, rethink, and so forth. Mercury is conjunct Pluto, pointing toward the past or old issues, possibly corruption, power trips, control issues and such. The T-square present for both lunations is still there, at least mostly, thanks to the Pluto-Mercury conjunct. This looks like some sort of deadlock that is going to go back to the drawing board. Saturn is at the apex of a Triangle of Potential, suggesting that an authority figure could step in and decide what needs to be done. The moon and Neptune are in partile opposition, showing some risk of confusion or deception. This station occurs in Capricorn, your 3rd house of thoughts, ideas, siblings, neighbors and local travel, which implies rethinking or reconsidering something in this part of your life. If your birthday is right around November 7, this will sextile your natal Sun, which implies an opportunity. Thus, while Mercury may at first seem to honk things up, this may be a good thing. This is a time when rethinking or reconsidering your current plans is likely to be very beneficial. Starting a new endeavor, however, is not favored, since it's unlikely to ever come to fruition or be delayed. Be sure to finish your holiday shopping before this time, since anything purchased during Mercury RX tends to malfunction, especially items of a mechanical or electronic nature. Whatever you do, don't buy a car!

Uranus stations direct on December 29, 2 hours, 35 minutes and 42 seconds after the New Moon. Uranus is slightly more erratic when retrograde, but he's always full of surprises. The fact he stations in partile opposition to Jupiter suggests that these effects will be inflated. Since there's very little difference between this chart and that of the New Moon, it's likely to simply give the lunation an unexpected boost, largely because a stationing planet infuses that degree with a whole lot of energy due to the time it spends in that position. Those of you with a planet at 20 degrees can expect something to take you by surprise, probably in a big way. It won't necessarily be a bad thing, depending on the aspect involved, but likely to be disruptive in some way, regardless. This station occurs in Aries, your 6th house of work, health, service and pets. With Uranus in this house for quite a while, you have already undoubtedly seen upsets, disturbances, surprises or at the least, a very hectic pace, related to your job. Jupiter in your 12th house which includes hidden enemies and your subconscious mind, is not helping matters. Saturn in your 2nd house of possessions, finances, income, needs, comforts and pleasures, however, can help mitigate the effects by using his strong, restrictive nature to rein in your spending or needs in such a way that instability on the job does not turn catastrophic. If your birthday is right around November 12, this will be more pronounced and I hate to tell you this, but it's not going to go away until at least the end of January, as far as Uranus moving out of that degree.
