New Moon

This month's New Moon is part of a Grand Earth Trine with Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Virgo. These aspect patterns provide an easy flow of energy between the planets involved and carry a strong theme for the element in which they reside, which in this case is Earth. Earth is stable, practical and generally down to earth. With all the insanity out in the world these days, this could bring a touch of much-needed realism.  Pluto in Capricorn has been busily digging up and exposing corruption in corporate and government entities for several years now even while they continue to pursue power grabs wherever possible. Jupiter retrograde in Virgo is pointing toward ethics issues and the need to redefine them since it appears that they are a forgotten concept at all levels.  Since a New Moon tends to bring something new, hopefully we'll see progress, but it may take a while since Mars and Mercury are both retrograde as well as Saturn.

Mars retrograde is a time to slow down, look back, and possibly retrace your steps. Activities pursued during this time are often an exercise in futility, unless you are going back and redoing something. Motivation usually stalls out, but if you're doing what you should with this energy, you'll feel good.  Mars in philosophical Sagittarius can help you sort through anything in the part of your life noted above with a new attitude. It's an excellent time to go back and finish something you've been procrastinating as well. Purchases made at this time often don't work out as expected with this exacerbated further by Mercury also retrograde. Putting off buying any big ticket items is highly recommended until this is not only over at the end of June but into July as far as you can manage. If something breaks down, renting until then may be a better option than being stuck with something that never functions properly.

Coupled with Mars' admonition is Mercury RX, which is about rethinking, reconsidering, redoing and reversing as well.  Mercury is in Taurus which brings more practical energy to bear. This is a time to definitely be chanting the mantra "If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got." Unless you life is exactly the way you want it to be, this is an excellent time to review how you got where you are and what you need to do to get back on track. That Earth element influence should be helpful sorting things out.

The Grand Trine is not the only aspect pattern for this lunation. There is also one I call a "course adjustment loop" that is also tied into the New Moon and Jupiter plus Saturn retrograde. Its general push is typically recognizing that what you're doing isn't working and that you need to change course, so this fits in nicely with what Mars and Mercury are pushing for as well. Saturn RX is a time when your subconscious is ruminating on something that needs to be restructured.  You may not be fully away of what this is until mid-August, but all these planets working together are lending all the assistance they can, provided you're paying attention.

The final aspect pattern is a T-square between Neptune, Saturn and Jupiter.  This one represents tension and challenges which are often hard to break. This could very well represent how you got where you are in the first place. Neptune has been rather troublesome lately, dishing out delusions, deception, idealism and brain-fog galore. Neptune rules escapism and all the vehicles that take you there, particularly drugs, alcohol and fantasies that have no basis in reality. The opposition from Jupiter should bring a wake-up call that points heavily toward whatever you've been ignoring or not seeing clearly. These, in turn, trace back to Saturn and his restructuring duty.

Full Moon

The Full Moon on 21 May in Sagittarius has similar aspects to the New Moon. Mercury RX has taken the place of the New Moon/Sun combo, but Jupiter and Pluto are still involved.  The course adjustment loop is still there and so is the T-square. However, Jupiter stationed direct a few days after the New Moon, so his energy is changing. While retrograde he tends to be philosophical, when direct he expands upon what he touches.  Jupiter is in Virgo, a sign of his traditional debility. Virgo is critical and detail oriented while Jupiter is expansive and optimistic. This will be a good thing if a positive approach is taken in a practical way that is detailed enough to work.

The Moon conjunct Mars retrograde undoubtedly will bring something of interest that ties into the ending/culmination/shift to a new phase influences of this type of lunation. The Sun transiting Gemini implies data will come to light which is going to bring about a few changes.  Other than that, it will further reinforce the effects initiated by the New Moon.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

Jupiter stations direct on 9 May, the day when Mercury transits the Sun, literally.  You can find more information on that event here. A conjunction combined with a transit to the Sun is particularly strong and will undoubtedly affect the energy of the station.  A typical conjunction occurs when planets are in the same zodiacal degree, but they may appear separated in the sky by a substantial amount of declination, i.e. its elevation above the celestial equator. When the declination is the same as well, it's a double-whammy of influence. If your birthday is right around February 9 Mercury's transit will have a strong effect on you personally which will probably show up in your 4th house of home environment, cultural roots, memories, endings or new beginnings. It will also lend additional kick to the Jupiter station, since the Mercury/Sun combo trines Jupiter. Jupiter's station will have the strongest effect for those born right around February 3 since it will quincunx your natal Sun, suggesting a transformational change of direction.  I expect a lot of information to be released or uncovered at this time. Venus trining Jupiter from Taurus, where she's in dignity, brings a bit of luck and perhaps a sense of relief. Venus is sextile Neptune, suggesting there may be a chance to show compassion or possibly simply be enlightened by what comes out, which will have a surprise element no one saw coming. 

Mercury stations direct the day after the Full Moon under the same aspects described earlier. At this point, the rethinking/revising/reconsidering shifts in a new direction. Mars RX opposes the Sun for this event, indicating it might not be that easy to take action on any new information. If your birthday is right around February 4, Mercury stations squaring your natal Sun from your 4th house, as described above under the New Moon. This will actually form an aspect similar to one of those course adjustments loops for you folks since Saturn sextiles your Sun, implying opportunities via a friend or networking to do some rebuilding toward your goals. With involvement in your 4th the house of endings and new beginnings, you may at least get a preview of what can be done when Mars finally moves forward in a few months.
