New Moon/Solar Eclipse

This month starts out with its first New Moon on September 1 in Virgo. This lunation is also a solar eclipse, which gives it quite a bit more punch. Solar eclipses tend to bring circumstances and events your way while lunar eclipses operate more on the emotional level. This one is annular, in other words it will not entirely obscure the Sun, and will be visible along a narrow path that crosses Africa about two thirds of the way to the south. According to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, this one is in the 19 North family of the Saros Series. The general tone of this family relates to realism and coming down to earth. This is a time to understand an old situation for what it is which may be different than previous thoughts or opinions. Confronting the truth, even if it's unpleasant, goes with this eclipse. It's particularly interesting that this is the general theme for the entire family of eclipses which have occurred in 1908, 1926, 1944, 1962, 1980, 1998 and now. Those are some interesting times in history which have been graced by these influences. If those years don't ring a bell, you might want to take a look at them and note some parallels to today, which is certainly a time when things are a hot mess, but they were in many ways in those years, too. Eclipses are just one of a multitude of cosmic cycles.

The chart for this eclipse has a tremendous amount of energy in Virgo besides the eclipse itself. Jupiter is there as well as Mercury, who is dignified and exalted and Virgo as his very favorite sign of all the zodiac, but he's retrograde, which makes it even more interesting since that makes it a time to rethink and reconsider, which fits well. Relationships have had a difficult time lately and Venus in Libra, a sign she rules, may help that area. Responsibilities have been on the table for discussion and there has been quite a bit of deception as well, either directed toward others or yourself. This is not to say they have been done in a devious way, necessarily, but could simply be a matter of avoiding the truth and trying to spare someone's feelings. If it's you in a state of denial, then it's time to get over it.

The main aspects in this chart are a T-square that involves the eclipse, Mars, Saturn and Neptune, all of which tie into its underlying theme so well they don't require any further explanation.

Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse

This lunar eclipse is in the same family as the solar so has the same underlying meaning as described above. It occurs in Pisces, a sign that is directly associated with delusions and deception. This chart is not as simple as the solar eclipse, however. It has a slightly different T-square, which comprises the Sun and Moon at the base with Mars at the apex, suggesting the challenge of balancing your head and heart philosophically when confronted with undeniable facts. Jupiter has moved into Libra, joining Venus, placing two planets with a benefic reputation in the sign that rules relationships. Venus is part of a Triangle of Potential with Mars and Uranus, which suggests a break-up, unless a suitable compromise can be reached. This goes back to the responsibilities issue, which could also involve some deception and refusal to acknowledge the facts. Remember, ignoring the facts does not change the facts.  The apex of this ToP is Mars, implying that for relationships issues, the guys are the ones who can do something about this and if it's not a relationship issue, then action is required. Money matters could be involved as well.

Mercury is still retrograde, so rethinking, reconsidering and revising are still favored. Remember not to buy anything mechanical or electronic during this time though repairs, redoing and revisiting a problem are favored. Starting something new, however, is not. Mercury RX is pointing toward learning from the past. If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got. So if you're not happy with your life, change is required. You attract what you project, so examine your attitude.

Another aspect pattern is in there, the one I call a Course Adjustment Loop and is sometimes called a learning triangle. Is is the one the one where you acknowledge that something isn't working and that a change is required, so this goes along with everything else. Put this cosmic energy to work for you while it's out there.

New Moon

This month there are two New Moon, depending on where you live. For some, it will be on October 1 but here in the USA it's September 30. This lunation is in Libra, suggesting something new with regard to a relationship. The quincunx from the lunation to Neptune implies a change of direction, but make sure it's not based on wishful thinking. Venus, who has moved into Scorpio, sign of her debility, is semi-sextile the New Moon, bringing friction. Mars is squaring Jupiter from his exalted position in Capricorn, which suggests some resistance moving forward, possibly someone standing in your way. Mercury is direct by this time, suggesting more clarity of thought, and also indicating a change of direction is advised.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

Mercury stations direct on September 22, about nine hours before the Sun goes into Libra. This station chart contains a Mutable Grand Cross, which indicates challenges galore. Even if you've decided what needs to be done, it looks as if it's not going to be a piece of cake to accomplish it. Seeing things as they really are is favored and making an adjustment based on actually learning something from the past as the fact that things are not working finally sink in. Depending on the situation, perhaps a clean break is not the answer, so be sure to weight the pros and cons. Excuses and blaming are not going to solve a thing, so set them aside in favor on definitive action that will help solve the problem.

If your birthday is right around 5 May, this station trines your natal Sun from fellow Earth Sign, Virgo, your 5th house of ego definition, creativity, romance, children, entertainment and speculation. This is often referred to as the "Fun House" since most those items tend to be pleasant and enjoyable, though of course, life being the way it is, this may not always be the case. Nonetheless, something in this area has required rethinking or redoing and it's now time to do so. However, there are numerous obstacles, so this is easier said than done. However, Pluto in Capricorn, another Earth Sign, is also trining your Sun, effectively forming a Grand Trine which tends to bring a lot of easy energy in your direction. Pluto is in your 9th house of beliefs, expectations, philosophy of life, higher learning, legal matters, long-distance travel, other cultures and relocation. This is a time to think about what you want most in life and what needs to be done to pursue it.

The Sun goes into Libra on September 22, marking the autumnal or vernal equinox, depending on whether you're in the Northern or Southern hemisphere. When the Sun enters one of the Cardinal signs, i.e. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, the season changes. This applies to more than the weather, though that is where it's most noticeable. For mundane matters the chart for this ingress has a bearing as well. This one continues to show conflict and deception though taking action at a philosophical level may be your best bet. Knowledge or information which has been hidden may be coming out at last, which could clash with pre-conceived ideas. Humility regarding past mistakes is advised rather than digging in your heels. Set aside anything that's been holding you back.

Pluto stations direct on September 26, also pointing toward a change of course, need to justify your position or a Catch-22. This station hits the same folks, i.e. those born right around 5 May, so this station gives you another blast of energy from your 9th house, defined earlier. As a fixed sign, you're not a big fan of change, which may be required to go after what you really decided you wanted as a result of Mercury's station. Rebuilding some part of your life is likely to be required and possibly putting you off. A change in your belief system is required so you can deal with anything necessary if you want to effect a new beginning. If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got.
