NEW MOON 

The New Moon this month on 12 July is also a solar eclipse. It's only a partial eclipse, which will be visible along a small swath of Antarctica and bits of the Indian Ocean on either side, so not one that's exactly going to draw big crowds. Since eclipse paths do seem to see something worth noting come their way, it would be interesting to watch this area for events, such as huge chunks of ice falling into the sea, or something like that. Even if the path doesn't cross your location, they do seem to have a stronger effect than the usual, garden-variety lunation. The effects also seem to last longer, even reaching back to before they actually happen. Weird, I know, but demonstrates the overall strange nature of astrology, which works, but we don't know how. Being timeless would certainly fit the quantum realm, but I digress.

This one as well as its lunar counterpart later in the month is part of the 2 Old North group of the Saros Series. According to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, this isn't the friendliest of eclipse families and it often has a bearing on relationships. However, while it may bring some separations or endings, the final results tend to be positive.

There's a fairly tight Grand Earth Trine included with this one that comprises Uranus, Venus, and Saturn. Uranus is a real challenge to predict, given his basic nature is well, unpredictable. In this case, he could be bringing an unexpected relationship or even some other pleasantry into your life that increases your stability, or, conversely, it could be finding freedom that brings more stability, go figure. Given the overall energies of this eclipse family, the latter seems slightly more likely. The course adjustment loop is out there still, between Mercury, Jupiter, and Neptune, which suggests having inaccurate information or unrealistic expectations about something that require an adjustment before things will work out. The Lunation itself is trining Neptune, which could increase the possibility of not seeing things clearly, most likely due to being too emotionally involved. The Sun/Moon opposing Pluto suggests ties to the past or an unresolved issue that could get in the way. 

On top of all this, Mars is retrograde and unaspected, which gives him quite a bit of punch. He throws a bit of a damper over things in that new endeavors started when he's doing the backstroke often fall flat. In other words, they either don't work out as expected or could turn out to be one of those head-slappin' goofs you look back on later, wondering what you were thinking. On the positive side, going back to square one, or doing something unfinished or set aside has a better possibility of success. In a few weeks, Mercury goes retrograde, too, so this summer has a bit of a damper on it for initiating new projects.

FULL MOON

The Full Moon on 27 July is a lunar eclipse that will be visible in Europe and Africa, but not the USA or South America, where it occurs during the daylight hours, so the Moon will be below the horizon. While solar eclipses tend to relate to events, lunar eclipses tend to relate more to emotions and reactions. Mars retrograde is conjunct the Moon, implying a "go back, do over" push, especially with the South Lunar Node right there as well, considering that this node relates to your comfort zone and where you've been as opposed to the North Node, representing where you're heading. The North Node, of course, is conjunct the Sun, so my take on this is that you may know what you need to do, but can't emotionally get a grip on it. Uranus at the apex of a T-square with the eclipse gives it an unexpected twist of some sort, the fact all parties are in fixed signs also hinting toward it be difficult to make any necessary changes.

The course adjustment loop is still there, but Mercury has handed off to the Sun, implying that any information that you encountered earlier will now be more obvious. Venus and Neptune are in opposition, suggesting that facts and details involving love or money may not be lining up with what you'd visualized. Annoyances and regrets that you may have made a wrong call are likely. Factoring this into the eclipse theme of relationships, this looks like a time when a few things may hit the fan that cause a few bumps, but the ultimate results will work out, even if the relationship doesn't. For example, if the person you're currently hooked up with isn't the right one for you, the breakup might be unpleasant, but it will make you available to find (or go back to) someone more suited for you.

OTHER COSMIC EVENTS

This month's eclipses are bracketed by two planetary stations, Jupiter stationing direct and Mercury stationing retrograde. Jupiter stations direct on 10 July. When Jupiter is direct, his usual nature prevails, which is that of inflating or exaggerating what he touches. When he's retrograde, he's more introspective and tends toward philosophical or ethical matters. While he's in Scorpio, an intense and passionate sign, his energy will be imbued with those influences as well. He stations trining Neptune, as has been the case for quite a while, bringing in the King of the Deep's propensity for idealism, dreaminess, or illusion. If your birthday is right around 4 May, Jupiter stations opposing your natal Sun from your 7th house of relationships. Thus, you can expect some expansion in this part of your life, either through the increase of an existing relationship or perhaps several new people coming into your life, any of whom may assist with one of your goals.

Venus has just gone into Virgo, sign of her fall, since her open and welcoming nature is in what can be a precise and critical environment. Think of it as being along the lines of when the honeymoon is over. The Grand Trine mentioned earlier has thus just begun, so when you think of the honeymoon being over, the influences of the eclipse, and Saturn retrograde growling for restructuring, all involving earth signs demanding stability, this could get interesting indeed. Lessons from the past are highlighted, suggesting power trips, control issues, and the fact that some things never change. Talking about any issues using the classic "I" messages (as opposed to "you" messages, such as in "you make me feel blah blah blah) are helped with Mercury in Leo, though Venus in Virgo may be inclined to place the blame elsewhere. In the context of an eclipse environment, this all has rather interesting potential. For Taurus, this Grand Trine occurs in your 1st, 5th, and 9th houses, which are generally considered favorable places. If your birthday is right around April 22, Uranus is conjunct your natal Sun, which could have a very disruptive effect. For someone who doesn't like change, this could be a very uncomfortable transit. However, maybe you need shaking up if you're stuck in a rut that is not in your best interest. Venus is your sign ruler and another component of this aspect pattern, so think positive that she will bring something favorable related to the 5th house which includes your ego definition, children, creativity, romance, speculation, and entertainment. Saturn in your 9th suggests restructuring your attitude or belief system. Higher learning or legal matters may also be involved.

Mercury stations retrograde 26 July, and it's amazing how many people who otherwise know little to nothing about astrology recognize this as a time when things simply don't go well. Mercury rules communications of all varieties as well as anything electronic or that moves. This is definitely not the time to buy something the fits any of those descriptions. Especially avoid expensive items such as cars and major appliances. You already have Mars working against you, and Mercury isn't going to make that any better. Communications are likely to be difficult whether in conversations or the electronic variety, such as those conducted over the internet or even traffic signals or TV broadcasts. On the positive side, this is a time to review, revise, reconsider, and regroup at the planning level, perhaps going all the way back to square one, as implied by Mars. Saturn is retrograde, too, a more subtle influence that tends to slow things down and place obstacles in the way while he's nudging you to restructure and rebuild. The chart for this hits my natal chart like a train, so I'm not expecting to make much progress this summer for a variety of reasons. Mercury stations in fellow fixed sign Leo, Taurus' natural 4th house, which includes your home environment, cultural roots, memories, endings, and new beginnings. This suggests rethinking, redoing, or reconsidering something in this part of your life. It will have a stronger impact for those of you born right around 14 May since the station will square your natal Sun.

Keep your expectations somewhat low and rather than expecting anything new and exciting to come your way, reassess where you are, how things are going, and what may need to change. Exceptions are if you're already rethinking and redoing something, which hopefully will have a better outcome than the first shot.
