Lunations and Long Term Aspects

This month there are numerous long-term aspects worth noting, so I'm going to do so here expecting that you Virgos will hang onto this particular horoscope for future reference, or better yet mark your calendars accordingly.  In fact, one of them, that Saturn - Pluto square, was exact for the first time on November 15, will remain in effect all the way from then through January 31, when it will be exact again, and then last until mid-March.  This is due to retrograde motion involving both planets which will result in the square resuming again between July 22 - September 16, 2010.  As you undoubtedly know, both Saturn and Pluto are outer planets which move slowly, giving them plenty of time to grind away and motivate any needed change.  This aspect and its likely affects were described in your November horoscope, so rather than be redundant, refer back there for the particulars.  The Readers Digest version is that your 2nd House of possessions, finances, needs and pleasures and your 5th House of ego definition, children, creativity, romance, speculation and entertainment are the prescribed venues where significant issues will be targeted for resolution.

Another astrological aspect that will be in force for an extended amount of time is a Mars retrograde cycle.  These occur roughly every two and a half years with this one lasting from December 20 through March 10, 2010 though the shadow period will persist until May 17, 2010 when Mars finally catches up to the position where it initially went retrograde, implying that significant progress won't be likely until that point and beyond.  Mars is in Leo during this time, your 12th House of enlightenment, spirituality, dreams, confinement, institutions, seclusion and hidden enemies.  This is a bit of a woo-woo house, especially for a practical Earth Sign such as Virgo who may eye such venues as weird, undefined, and therefore irrelevant.  In fact, maybe the point of this transit will be to call your attention to this area as one that you've been neglecting.  It's also worth noting that Mars rules your 8th House of transformations, sex, death and regeneration, debt, and shared resources, so one or more of these elements will be involved as well.  I hate to mention this since Virgos are prone to worry too much anyway, but Mars in the 12th House could also pertain to an injury that requires hospitalization or some other type of confinement, so be extra careful.

One influence that Mars RX tends to have is to make you more reactive as opposed to active, particularly with regard to unresolved conflict.  Virgos typically don't like confrontations, especially if there's a chance that they could be wrong about something, proving they're imperfect, which is undoubtedly one of your worst nightmares (which, of course, are included in the 12th House).  Also note that the 12th includes hidden enemies, so if anyone is out to undermine you, especially someone you think is your friend or don't even know exists, Mars in that House is going to bring that out.  A clue to whom that might be lies in the fact that for December at least Mars will be opposite the asteroid, Chiron, in your 6th House of work, health and pets.  This is where this transit can really start to hit home since Virgo rules the Zodiacal 6th House and this terrain is near and dear to your heart.  Chiron is all about the injuries we suffer whether they're physical, mental, financial or emotional.  Thus, a hidden enemy who can bite you in the 6th House is something you'll want to take note of.  In a nutshell, this is most likely to involve your job, some other project you're working on, perhaps as a volunteer, or your health.

Naturally issues develop over time and the aspects Mars makes to the Sun yield numerous clues regarding when significant events will occur.  First of all will be a trine on December 10, when the Sun is in your 4th House of home environment and Mars is still direct.  This will generate a lot of energy that will relate to home and that 12th House in some manner.  Since the 12th is the house of our imagination and dreams, it would be likely for some major brainstorm to come along at this time that could relate to your home, such as a major remodel, buying a new one while interest rates are down, or what-have-you.  Your best bet is to leave it alone, because it's unlikely that this will ever come to fruition.  Ten days later, on December 20, Mars will go retrograde.  With Mars opposite Chiron in your 6th House of health, one possibility at this point, if you started in on a new home project, doing it yourself as you usually do, there's a reasonably good chance that you would get hurt in some way, either physically or perhaps financially, just in time for Christmas.  See my point?  The 12th is also the house of self-undoing, so any self-defeating habits or character traits you have may be the subject as well.  This is a tough call to make, but hopefully I'll give you enough clues to figure it out as it pertains to you.

By January 29, the Sun will be in Aquarius and opposite Mars RX, another time when you should be cautious since something unfortunate is likely to happen.  On February 21, when the Sun has gone into Pisces and will be opposite the Natal Sun for Virgos born around August 27, the Sun and Mars will form a quincunx, which denotes a change of course or Catch-22, probably as it relates to someone close to you such as a business associate.  When Mars goes direct again on March 11, it will be time to take some decisive action and whatever this RX cycle was all about should be resolved by early May.  Obviously, there are numerous possibilities, but keep an eye out particularly for work or health issues you've been ignoring and don't take any unnecessary chances.  In other words, watch your back.

There are three lunations this month which includes two Full Moons, one of which is an eclipse.  The first Full Moon occurs on December 2nd in Gemini, your 10th House of career, reputation and status, bringing something in this part of your life to a close or perhaps a new phase.  This Full Moon will form a T-Square with your Natal Sun for those of you born within a day or so of September 3, which will make it more noticeable for you and undoubtedly highlight your home and public image in some manner.  Some of the aspects accompanying this Full Moon that will help define its function include that Saturn - Pluto square already mentioned and a square between your Sign Ruler, Mercury, and Uranus.  Mercury is in Sagittarius, your 4th House of home environment and Uranus is in your 7th House of relationships, implying unexpected news will have a bearing on how this lunations plays out.  There's also a sextile between Mercury and Neptune in your 6th House of work, so if there's something confusing going on with your job, perhaps talking it out with someone at home will help.   Neptune always throws a bit of a caution flag, however, since it's not always obvious whether it's real or not, so don't necessarily count on taking it to the bank, or it may not turn out as represented.

The New Moon on December 16 is in Sagittarius, your 4th House of home environment again, indicating something new on the homefront.  Mars is fairly active at this time, which is a few days before he goes retrograde.  His trine to Venus could bode well for some inspiration as it pertains to money or a female member of your family.  A change of direction is implied due to something new that relates to your creative efforts, children, romance or a speculative effort and there is a wide opposition between Mars and that stellium in Aquarius comprising Jupiter, Neptune and the asteroid, Chiron, which comes back to watching your back at work and also not taking any unnecessary chances with your health.  Someone you're close to or know well could throw a few surprises your way that will contribute to what ever new circumstance is coming your way.  Opportunities between home and work or your health abound as well, implying either new projects, earning additional income from home, or similar pursuits.  Don't forget that caution related to Mars retrograde, however, about some big flash of inspiration around December 10th that is likely to come to naught, unless you can complete it before the 20th.

The second Full Moon this month is on New Years Eve, or depending where you live on the planet, possibly New Years Day.  In other words if you live in North or South America it will be December 31 and if you live in Australia or that vicinity it will be January 1.  Either way, this is a Lunar Eclipse, giving it additional punch and an interesting way to start the new year.  This one occurs in Cancer, your 11th House of friends, organizations, group interactions, and goals.  As a Full Moon it also implies an ending or shift to a different level.  According to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, the overall flavor of this eclipse, which is in the 12 North grouping of the Saros Series, relates to the sudden opportunity to take on more responsibilities, perhaps due to the fact that someone close to you can no longer do so.  This will typically have favorable results, even though it will require effort on your part.  With the eclipse occurring in your 11th House, this implies that this will involve a friend, coworker, or perhaps a fellow member of an organization.

Mars is retrograde at this time and quincunx your Sign Ruler, Mercury, who's also retrograde in fellow Earth Sign, Capricorn, your 5th House of creativity, ego definition, children, romance and so forth.  A quincunx denotes a Catch-22, adjustment, change of course or possibly the need to justify your actions and Mercury RX is a time to rethink and re-plan.  This is one of those delineation dilemmas where each reader needs to do their own mix and match routine with the possibilities between the 5th and 12th Houses.  One possibility would be putting one of your dreams on hold due to news related to one of your creative endeavors.  For example, maybe you have an invention you're thinking about selling, but determine the timing isn't right for one reason or another, so you decide to wait for further developments.  Your immediate plans will need to be adjusted as a result, yet watch for an unexpected opportunity in doing so that will come through someone close to you.  Remember that Saturn - Pluto square is out there as well, so will color it as well from the financial angle.

Short Term Aspects

December 1:  Venus goes into Sagittarius, bringing her blessings to your home and family.  Conversations with someone at home could help sort out confusion related to a situation at work or with a project.

December 2:  Full Moon today as described above.

December 4:  A good day to take care of home responsibilities such as balancing the checkbook or putting together a budget.

December 5:  Mercury goes into Capricorn, facilitating thoughts and ideas related to your creativity, ego definition, children, romance, speculations or entertainment.  If you have a naggy feeling that you've overlooked or forgotten something, it could have something to do with your finances or maintaining one of your possessions.

December 7:  Finding something lost or obtaining previously hidden information which will have a negative impact to your finances is highly likely today.

December 8:  Feeling picked on or taking any problems personally will simply waste your energy.  Look for solutions rather than simply complaining about it.

December 10:  If something comes up at work today, think twice about being too outspoken or it might bite you later.  This is also that day when that situation related to home may arise that you need to not get too fired up over since it may be a moot point ten days from now.

December 11:  Expect additional confusion at work or perhaps news that something has gone away or been resolved.  Keep your ego in check, one way or the other.

December 14:  A major surprise or disruption pertaining to a family member or someone close to you is likely, so don't make any plans you can't postpone.

December 15:  Something may mysteriously appear or disappear today.

December 16:  New Moon today as described above.

December 17:  A favorable day for some inspiration related to creative ideas.  Also a good day for interactions with the opposite sex.

December 19:  Expect the unexpected from a female in your household.

December 20:  Mars goes retrograde today as described above.  A good day for coming up with ideas for making money from home.

December 21:  The Sun goes into Capricorn today marking the winter solstice.  There's the potential for a major deception or a figurative bubble to burst today, probably at work.  Don't believe everything you hear or react too strongly.  Watch your back, get the facts and adjust as necessary without being too vocal about it.

December 24:  An excellent day for resolving old issues.

December 25:  Venus goes into Capricorn, bringing her favor to your creative efforts, children, romantic interests and speculative interests.  If you've spent more than you should have on the holidays, expect a twinge or two of guilt or if you feel neglected, your ego is likely to protest or feel under attack.

December 26:  Mercury goes retrograde today, so don't give into any of those bargains on electronic or mechanical devices at those after-Christmas sales; other things like clothes are probably okay, though there's a possibility they could fall apart more easily than usual.  You're probably better off not spending the money at all.  Remember that Mercury RX periods are good for re-thinking, re-planning, reevaluating, editing and so forth.

December 27:  Don't take any unnecessary chances today, especially if you're out on the ski slopes.  Even if you're just working around the house, be extra careful.

December 28:  Be wary of power trips today, particularly with respect to romantic relationships.  If you maintain an appropriate balance of power there is potential to deeper the relationship to a transformational level.

December 29:  Your children or romantic partner may cost you money today.  Not a good day for speculative ventures.

December 30:  Don't let wishful thinking create a situation at work where you'll be disappointed later.

December 31:  Full Moon/Eclipse as described above.
