Long Term Aspects This month there are two retrograde planets to contend with that are worth noting. Saturn went retrograde on New Years Eve, thus kicking off 2009 with some things to think about until the middle of May. Saturn is all about structure, responsibility, obligations, and discipline and when he goes retrograde it means there is something in this area that needs some remodeling. During this time it will be brought to your attention for consideration and then by the time he goes direct again you can start doing something about it. Saturn is in Virgo, your 6th House of work, health and pets. Applying Saturnine principles to these areas indicate you need to be more disciplined on the job, more attentive to your physical health, or perhaps your dog needs to go to obedience school. It’s up to you to figure out which one is most urgent at this time. This is further complicated by the fact that Saturn is currently in opposition to Uranus who’s cruising along in Pisces, your 12th House of dreams, inspiration, transcendence and, of particular interest to warrior-type Aries, hidden enemies. Uranus is the planet of sudden change, disruptions, unexpected events, and rebellion. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that this is pretty antithetical to Saturn’s structure, discipline and responsibility. While these two are in their astrological tug-o-war you’ll experience some real oscillations between these two areas and knowing that Aries value their independence more than just about anything, you know which way you’re going to lean. The question you need to answer is “How’s that working for you?” If things related to (pick one) [1) the job 2) your health or 3) an incorrigible pet] are in dire need of some discipline Saturn is giving you a chance to get that figured out. If you’ve been ignoring it or been blissfully ignorant of the need for such, you can bet that something is going to happen to bring it to your attention. No offense, but Aries can be pretty hard-headed and oblivious to things that don’t interest them or seem important. This is when the Universe will step in, as nothing else can, and rub your nose in it. Few Signs are more diametrically opposed than warrior Aries and peacenik Pisces and the natural tendency would lean toward a lot of eye rolling or deer-in-the-headlights looks between them regarding their respective a priori assumptions about life. The truth of the matter, however, is there is much they can learn from each other. A well-rounded life involves all twelve astrological houses, even though some will be less comfortable than others, just like visiting some relatives is more comfortable than others. What I'm getting at is that Uranus in this Sign will motivate you to take a look at the more spiritual side of your life. Since Uranus can bring surprises and the unexpected into our life, these events can sometimes force us to deal with something we’d prefer to ignore. No matter how comfortable you may be in the “real” world, there are insights and benefits to be gained by at least being in touch with another plane of existence. There’s also the possibility that you’re having the opposite challenge in that you’d rather pursue your dreams versus earning a paycheck. Again, balance is the key. Or maybe your fantasies involve living or working in a perfect world that quite frankly doesn’t exist. At any rate, Saturn and Uranus will be tutoring you in Real World versus Dream World realities over the next several months so give it some thought and move toward any necessary changes voluntarily as you won’t like it if the Universe forces the issue. Mercury goes retrograde on January 11 and will be in that condition until February 1st. You’re probably already aware that you should avoid purchasing anything of an electronic or mechanical nature during that time. This excursion in reverse will start in your 11th House of groups, organizations, coworkers, and, oddly enough, hopes and wishes, then go back into your 10th House of career and reputation. Mercury retrograde is a favorable time to rethink, re-plan, or reconsider anything that applies to these two areas. If you have any projects in-work in either, this will be a time when making progress isn’t likely to happen, but re-doing, editing, and so forth will go quite well. It’s the time to make sure you’re on the right track and haven’t missed anything. So put it to good use and don’t get too frustrated if things don’t move forward at the pace you’d prefer. Pluto went back into Capricorn in the end of November and is going to be doing his roto-rooter thing in your 10th House of career and reputation. This is going to be in-work for a long, long time, since he’s hanging out in that vicinity until November 2024. No, that’s not a typo, the year twenty-twenty-four. During that time you will see this part of your life undergo a complete transformation, much as a phoenix dies, then rises again from the ashes with new life. Aries thrive on challenge so this should be an invigorating and exciting time. If there’s anything about your current career that has skeletons in the closet that need exhuming, or could do with a complete housecleaning, zodiacal help is on the way. Put this in the back of your mind and factor it in as events unfold in this part of your life. Pluto is often associated with death and the underworld, but he’s also associated with new life. Please allow a 24 hour window on either side of the date below for the aspect to manifest.] January 2: Mercury will be teasing Pluto today, which will result in finding something out either at work or with respect to some other venue that involves a group of people that you weren’t aware of before. Chances are whatever it is will be annoying in some way and be just the New Years present you don’t need to get back in your regular routine. If you take the day off, chances are it will be your friends or relatives that do the honors. Resistance is futile. Venus is likewise taunting Jupiter, which implies that money and/or some philosophical issue will be involved or possibly some questionable edict from “The Boss.” January 4: Venus is whispering something in Pluto’s ear today that there’s a career opportunity out there if you’ll heed the inspiration coming your way. This is likely to relate to that bit of information you encountered the other day and how you can use it to your advantage. January 5: If there’s any associates or coworkers out there you can’t trust, they’re likely to tip their hand today. Watch your back. At any rate, something unexpected is brewing in the Land of Nod. January 6: Your career ambitions may encounter a quagmire today, so keep a rope and your hip waders handy. January 8: Coworkers are getting in the way again and getting on your last nerve as they create a variety of annoyances relative to a project you’re working on. Bear in mind that retrograde Saturn is hunkered down in your house of work, so this is one of those things you need to be thinking long and hard about. Health issues may also be involved. You’ll know which one it is. January 9: Today is a good one for your career, believe it or not. Genuine insights or inspiration toward some new innovation is out there that you can use to enhance this part of your life and bring some positive attention your way. January 10: A female coworker or associate will annoy you today, either directly or with news or information you don’t like. If it’s the latter, just remember not to shoot the messenger. January 11: Full Moon today in your 4th House of home environment. This should represent the culmination of something regarding your home or family, possibly the completion of a project of some description. Work and career relationships are running smoothly today. It’s also a good day to get on that diet or fitness program or at least put together a plan going in that direction. Mercury goes retrograde today, so start rethinking that project that’s not going anywhere. January 12: Work demands or coworkers are interfering with your career goals again, possibly on the sly. Or maybe you’re missing something or just not seeing the forest for the trees. Check your compass and make sure you’re heading in the right direction. Clean your goggles while you’re at it, too, and make sure what you’re seeing isn’t another mirage. January 15: Mercury and Saturn, both of whom are retrograde, are stirring up trouble at work or with how you feel physically. Something is trying to get your attention in one place or another. Quit arguing and listen. January 17: More surprise news or subversive activity at work. That hidden enemy may only be you, sabotaging your own efforts in some way. Either way, it will be annoying. January 18: Big news regarding that work project or something related to your group or club activities. However, it’s likely to be a step backwards with RX Mercury involved. January 19: The Sun goes into Aquarius today, bringing even more attention to everything going on with that group you’re involved with. More secrets or hidden information is revealing itself like cockroaches coming out of the woodwork. Time for Plan B. That brainstorm you had that should have meant some money just took a step backwards. January 20: You’re in the spotlight today so speak your piece on which direction that project needs to go. You’ll be perceived as brilliant, so make it good. January 21: You may need to dismiss one of your muses today due to escalation of that work project. Either that or someone is undermining your efforts again, probably a female. All of a sudden she doesn’t agree with the approach. Take three deep breathes and don’t forget your blood pressure medicine. January 22: Not to worry, help is on the way. Your Sign Ruler, Mars, will deliver today with an innovation that will knock their socks off. January 23: Inspiration that comes out of nowhere is on the way and it has either a romantic or monetary spin. Expect an “Aha!” moment of some description along those lines, then pay attention. January 24: There’s a whole bunch of stuff going on today so expect a busy, complex day. That work project and possibly you, personally, will receive a lot of attention and it may expand beyond the original plan. Remember that Mercury is retrograde and you’re probably reworking things, so this will be a major breakthrough. Your career drive will be in high gear, so don’t be frustrated with those delays as they’ll work in your favor. That brainstorm or vision from the other day is on your mind and is distracting you from the work at hand, particularly if the lack of progress is getting frustrating or boring. Inspiration on how to make more money, perhaps in a different career, is rolling in as well. Work is definitely in the way, however. Decisions, decisions… January 26: Another busy day. There will be a lot of activity with reworking that project and you’ll probably be right in the middle. Give anything that feels like inspiration the litmus test today for reality and/or look out for that female who loves to sabotage your efforts behind your back; forewarned is forearmed. January 27: Time to rethink your career drive in the context of Pluto coming up in the rear with his backhoe. Your original plan could dissolve before your eyes as something or someone unexpectedly delivers a major disruption. It may be time to punt. January 30: Delays, delays, delays. Big ones.
