Lunations and Long-term Aspects

The Full Moon this month occurs on March 10 in Virgo, your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, neighbors, and short journeys. Remember that the Moon is Cancer's Sign Ruler and thus affects you more than others. The Moon rules everyone's emotions, but everything for Cancers, meaning you make most of your decisions with your heart. This Full Moon trails some interesting aspects that will color its theme. Every Full or New Moon has a given "personality" based on the location of the other planets at that time and any aspects they're making one with another, but they're not usually as noticeable as this month. First of all, let's think about the fact that every Full Moon is, by definition, an opposition between the Sun and the Moon. This brings our emotions to the surface, explaining why dramatic events often occur at this time as people's emotions are let loose, so to speak.

An opposition between any planets is a tug-o-war between two planets and the astrological Houses they occupy, which gives us an idea of which part of our life is affected. For this lunation, the Moon is in Virgo, as already noted, and the Sun is in Pisces, your 9th House of beliefs (including religion and politics), long-distance travel/relocation, legal matters, and higher education. Thus, to keep it simple, the Sun will be focusing light on one or more of these 9th House issues which will bring out your feelings about them, perhaps generating some new thoughts about them you hadn't had before.

The extra punch lies in the fact that Saturn and Uranus are also in opposition, as they've been since October. Saturn is all about responsibility, our obligations, structure, authority, and lessons we learn about life. He's currently retrograde, meaning he's bringing some serious emphasis to this part of your life, which for Cancers is your thoughts, ideas, neighbors and so forth. Saturn is often represented by an authority figure or older person in your life who conveys wisdom. If you've been a bit flippant or casual in the past about any of these things, Saturn will be doing what he can to change that to a more serious mode. Uranus is currently in Pisces, your 9th House of beliefs, which was explained above. Uranus is the planet of sudden change, disruptions, rebellion, unexpected events, innovation, and so forth. Thus, in the simplest terms, Saturn is working on restructuring your thoughts while Uranus is disrupting your beliefs. In this case, these two can work together quite effectively; in other Houses they're diametrically opposed, not only astrologically but in principle as well since one is about stability and the other about sudden change. But I digress.

For this Full Moon, Saturn is conjunct the Moon and Uranus is conjunct the Sun, thus providing an environment that should be thought-provoking, to say the least. Expect events to occur that disrupt your beliefs in a variety of ways and thus trigger some serious thoughts on your part as they apply to your life. Other aspects in effect will involve a serious assessment relative to your relationships, which include all one-on-one interactions such as your significant other, close friends and relatives, business partners, and so forth. A close examination of your career and reputation is also called upon, which could result in some major changes in you personally, after which you'll see things quite differently than you did previously.

Also playing a part in all of this is Venus, who goes retrograde on March 6th in Aries, your 10th House of career and reputation. This will go on until April 16. Venus RX tends to stir up the silt in the bottom of something that has been entirely neglected or ignored for too long. This implies it's time for a very close look at your career ambitions. Are they in synch with who and what you really are? Does it bring you happiness and satisfaction or is it merely a paycheck that leaves your frustrated and empty at the end of the day? As an emotionally driven creature, you require emotional satisfaction to feel fulfilled. The best careers for Cancers usually involve allowing your natural, nurturing nature to operate. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, but if your current career comes up short, it's time to take a long, hard look at what can be done to bring it more in harmony with your needs.

This is a good place to point out that the 10th House is your career, or how you leave your mark on the world, whereas your 6th House is your work or what may be best known as your "day job." If you're a starving artist, for example, who works in a job where your typical activity is asking, "Do you want fries with that?" then your career is art, but your job is what it is, in other words a paycheck. What we all hope for, but don't always achieve, is bringing these two together. The 2nd House also influences our finances and how we earn a living, but that's another discussion. Meanwhile, be thinking about what you'd really like to do for a living as opposed to what you're doing now. If you're quite happy, then this probably doesn't apply to you, at least as much. At any rate, the New Moon on the 26th of March occurs in your 10th House, which implies something new is coming in this area. The New Moon has some helpful aspects to achieve this as well which include some deep examination of one or more of your relationships and may dredge something to the surface in this area that should have been resolved a long time ago.

This month another aspect to keep an eye on is a quincunx between Saturn and Jupiter which will be in force between March 14 - 31. A quincunx usually operates as a big Detour sign, indicating a change of direction or adjustment is required in our present course. This is going to reinforce those transformational changes that will affect how you think and see the world. During this time, expect events to occur that will have a strong influence on you. This often comes about as a Catch-22 situation that requires an adjustment and shifts your plans in a slightly different direction. All of these aspects will be working together as they always do in a perfectly choreographed, cosmic dance.

Short Term Aspects

All of this gets started on the 1st when some new information comes your way in a forceful way that gets you to thinking in a slightly different way than before. This could be an event that gets your attention or perhaps a person, but it's going to have an impact and start the process. Around March 5th you could experience a flash of inspiration, a sudden interest in the occult, or simply escape to Lalaland, particularly if you didn't like or don't want to face whatever happened on the 1st. This is not to say that it was bad, only that it touched you in some way. A few days later, probably around the 8th, you may have someone appeal to your sense of idealism and prompt you to take action on something that really isn't a good idea. Deception is likely to be involved, or it simply might not be worth your time or trouble. In other words, don't take any dramatic action at this time because it's likely to be an illusion. About the only activity that's safe to pursue at this time is something that is totally selfless, such as helping someone with no thoughts for anything in return. If you think there's something in it for you, you're likely to be disappointed or even exploited, so look out. This will stir up some of those ruminations on your core beliefs and new thoughts of a serious nature that deserve your attention.

The Full Moon comes along a few days later, so refer back to what that's all about and how it ties into the events of the first week or so of the month. By now you should have some idea of what is going on. On the 12th something unexpected is likely to happen that will really call attention to your beliefs and/or expectations. If you're thinking of going back to school or relocating somewhere, it could be an event that drives that decision and more than likely ties into all the career stuff as well. Within a day or two some annoyance will come along that emphasizes it even more and by the 18th you'll be doing some very serious thinking about what needs to be done.

On or around the 19th an opportunity will present itself that will give you even more motivation to pursue that new path. It could come through one of your relationships in one way or another, either as a helping hand or perhaps realizing that getting away is your best course. Around the 21st more unexpected news or thoughts will come your way that take you by surprise. You may even find yourself feeling or thinking in uncharacteristically rebellious ways. Your entire belief structure from the past may be disrupted and demanding your attention. On March 22 that Jupiter - Saturn quincunx is at its peak, so if you haven't seen the Detour sign yet, it should be looming before you now.

Right around March 23 those considerations regarding your career should become an important issue. Someone close to you could be involved, either opposing your views or pushing you to make a decision. This won't be a simple decision but an issue with some history that probably is past-due in being resolved. It could involve a power struggle of some sort as well. This is where Water Signs such as yourself excel; just remember that it was water that formed the Grand Canyon. Water comprises tsunamis and generated power when held back by dams. More information will come along regarding this issue around the 27th which should help you make a decision.

The remainder of the month will be further occupied with that career decision or what direction you need to take with your life. If you haven't figured out what was going on by now, it should be there in neon lights. If nothing else you'll understand what you've been ignoring and be on the way regarding what needs to be done about it. This is good stuff that will have a significant affect on your future happiness and satisfaction, so put it to good use as the Universe nudges you along in the direction you need to go.
