NEW MOON/SOLAR ECLIPSE The New Moon on 2 July is also a Solar Eclipse. It will be visible across various parts of South America, particularly Buenos Aires which is right in the center of the path of visibility along with various other points across Argentina and Chile. This eclipse is Saros Cycle 127, number 58, or 3 North, depending on which numbering scheme you follow. According to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, this eclipe family tends to be over-excessive with a main theme of involving young people or news that transforms a situation. It could have obsessive overtones as well, such as wanting to take on an overly ambitious project. This is not necessarily a problem, provided the person doesn't get too carried away. So that's the general character of this particular eclipse family. This one specifically somewhat reinforces that in numerous ways, almost to an eerie level. There aren't that many aspects involved, but those that are there fit right in. A long-term square between Neptune and Jupiter clearly throws an influence toward inflated, unrealistic endeavors. The sextile between Saturn and Neptune does provide a certain level of sanity toward bringing it into reality, though Saturn is retrograde, throwing delays into the mix and suggestions for restructuring or rebuilding, i.e. going back to the drawing board. This is highly advised if so far you have hit one wall after another. The semisextile between Saturn and Jupiter implies irritations and friction between the exaggerated size or scope, but this aspect is also the cloud with the silver lining that suggests efforts on your part can bring it to your favor. In other words, scaling it down can bring success. Another square between Uranus in Taurus and Mercury in Leo suggests surprising or unexpected news with Leo the sign most often associated with childhood. So that likewise fits the overall interpretation. As a reminder, solar eclipses tend to trigger events and circumstances while lunar eclipses often have a stronger emotional effect. Fine-tuning for you can come from referring to the natural house in which the eclipse occurs for additional clues. Remember that eclipses pack a bigger punch and last longer than the usual lunation. How long? Honestly, I don't know, because opinions vary. One way to look at it is that it creates a "hot spot" on your chart which could be activated at a later date from a transit from another planet, especially one that is important to you, such as your chart ruler (ruler of your ascendant) or your sign ruler. Personal planets, like the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are also important. If it gets hit by one of the slow-moving outer planets it will contact it for quite a while and probably definitely create some interesting times. There are no outer planets in the vicinity of this degree, however, so you're safe in that respect, unless you have a natal or progressed planet in that degree. FULL MOON/LUNAR ECLIPSE The lunar version of the eclipse occurs on 16 July and is in the same eclipse family, so retains the same overall interpretation. However, this individual chart has a lot more action than the one above. It has the same aspects noted plus several others, so I'll only address the additions. First of all, the eclipse is conjunct Pluto, which is an important influence. Pluto is a pretty heavy energy that tends toward power and control, but also relates to secrets, eliminating corruptions or anything that you no longer need. One simple example for this would be if it occurs in your 4th house, it's probably time to clean out the garage, attic, or that closet in the spare bedroom you've been avoiding for years. If it occurs in your 7th house, then it would lean toward power issues in a relationship, and so forth. Saturn is in Capricorn and in wide orb, but his influence is likely to be there, too, with regard to restructuring or rebuilding from the ground up. Venus opposing Saturn implies a conflict involving a woman in some way or perhaps resources or what you need or want. There are two aspect patterns, which create an energy loop. One is what I call a course adjustment loop, sometimes called a learning triangle. It's general meaning is that you encounter a problem, but if you make some adjustments or changes, things will proceed in an easier manner. The planets involved here suggest that the issues may be that the goal is too ambitious, so scaling it down or making it less expensive, will help bring it to fruition. For example, you need a new car, but it can be a Chevy instead of a Mercedes. And speaking of cars, don't buy one this month because Mercury goes retrograde for most the month. More on the below. Also, Mercury is retrograde for this eclipse, so his "rethink, review, reconsider" vibes fit right in with the rest of this, including the admonition that starting something new at this time is ill-advised. The other aspect pattern is known as a triangle of potential. It relates in much the same way, but the conflict relates to the rebuilding or restructuring process and thus reinforces the course adjustment loop, this time suggesting the some inspiration can help scale things down to a more practical level. Another new aspect is the square between Uranus and mars. This looks a lot like trying to rebel against the powers that be for your own benefit. OTHER COSMIC INFLUENCESAs noted above, Mercury stations retrograde on 7 July and remains such until 31 July, effectively throwing most of the month into reverse, especially when the pre-retrograde shadow period is considered. The post-retrograde shadow lasts until August 15. At least by the time school begins, in most cases, he will be in the clear, and shadow is better than retrograde, at least. He does backtrack into a different sign, going from Leo back into Cancer. Leo tends to be somewhat self-centered, whereas Cancer may consider family a bit more, albeit with more emotion generally. Neither of these signs is the best for effective communications. In general, this suggests rethinking anything you've been considering or promoting that is strictly for your own benefit without regard for anyone else. Going back into Cancer should make you more receptive to input, at least from those you care about.With Mercury conjunct Mars, however, this looks like some arguments will be involved and suggests the person who stirs the pot is likely to get some resistance or vice versa. The square with Uranus comes into play again. Uranus is the cosmic rebel and freedom lover who doesn't hesitate to start trouble or make a scene. Venus is tied into this, too, suggesting a woman may be the one who demands something be reconsidered or redone. The two aspect patterns described above for the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse, i.e. the course adjustment loop as well as the triangle of potential are present for this station chart, so those come into play as well as a directive for this retrograde period of rethinking and reconsidering. The Moon in Virgo looks like a call to examine the details with her trine to Pluto suggesting what needs to be fixed may not be easy to find as it is hidden or perhaps someone in control or on a power trip is the one putting the kabosh on things. Overall, this looks like a month to reassess your plans and aspirations by giving them a good sanity check, then make any necessary adjustments or changes accordingly.
