Review of Steven Forrest's "The Book Of Neptune"

"If you feel as if you've lost your footing, are sinking in quicksand or adrift on a large body of water with no land in sight, there's a good chance that Neptune is involved.  If that's the case, I can't recommend this book highly enough." --Whobeda
LUNATION SUMMARY
FULL MOON
(Ending, culmination, or shift to a new phase)
NEW MOON/SOLAR ECLIPSE
(Brings something new into your life)
Date:  9 October 2022 Date: 25 October 2022
Position: 16:33 Aries (Strongest influence for those born ~ 9 November) Position: 02:00 Scorpio (Strongest influence for those born ~25 October)
Natural House: 6th Natural House: 1st
Influences of the 6th house include work, health, service, employees and pets. A Full Moon in this house can bring the culmination of a project or perhaps even a position. For example, with hard aspects it could bring an end to a job or, with favorable ones, a shift to another one. (Promotions are usually 10th house.) If you're ready to make a change in your life, it's an excellent time to work on your diet or fitness plan or see a healthcare professional if you haven been feeling up to par.  Pets could be involved in some way as well. Influences of the 1st house include just about anything that affects you personally since this is the house of your personality and how others see you (or how you "dawn" on people), suggesting they may see you in a new way. This is a time when you might be inclined to show a different side of yourself than those around you expect. Self-actualization is emphasized, identifying who you really are, and what you want out of life. This can be the ultimate "new start." Unless this is your ascendant, this is probably your birthday month, so it's time for your solar return. That chart, which reflects when the Sun returned to its natal position, indicates what you can expect in the year ahead. You can learn more and order one here.

This month is loaded so this is going to be long. Hopefully, your eyes won't glaze over because there's some interesting stuff afoot, especially when Mars stations retrograde at the end of the month. Besides that, we have the usual lunations, one of which is a partial solar eclipse, plus four stationing planets. I'm going to cover them chronologically, which may provide some insights of how they tie into each other. All this suggests that this going to be a pretty active month.

MERCURY STATIONS DIRECT 2 OCTOBER 2022

I don't know about you, but it felt like this was a rather disruptive Mercury retrograde cycle. However, it usually does since Mercury is my chart ruler, but it seemed like the internet was behaving incredibly badly as well as various other electronic devices. Part of the cycle was spent in Libra, where Mercury tends to be more polite and politically correct, though in retrograde this will be more introspective or perhaps retrospective is a better word. "So we looked at that situation as fairly as possible, but was that a mistake?" Once he got back in Virgo, all bets were off as far as being polite, but digging into details with a critical eye. As the planet that rules communications (and appropriately Gemini and Virgo), facts are highly respected. Gemini is an air sign, Virgo an earth sign, neither one given to emotional reactions or outbursts. As he stations, various aspects are worth noting.

The trine to Pluto-rooter (Pluto retrograde excels in digging up corruption, particularly as it relates to corporations and governments with him in Capricorn) suggests rethinking and reconsidering whatever Pluto is digging out. No matter how hidden something may be, Pluto RX will find it, and in this case provide it to Mercury. Mercury is opposing  Neptune in Pisces, one of the most untrustworthy planets out there. His wheel-house includes deception, delusions, confusion, and fantasy worlds though admittedly also inspiration, enlightenment, and spirituality. These are matters it's hard to get your arms around and may lack a solid definition or evidence, for that matter. Virgo Mercury is antithetical to that, so it's unlikely that opposition will find a balancing point. Mercury's square to Mars in Gemini is a bit hard to read. Gemini loves data as much as Virgo loves details, so why would these be at cross-purposes? Perhaps because Gemini is usually quite objective, even though Mars is likely to want to take action on it. Mercury, however, being more practical, may want to audit the data carefully before committing to action. However, as the retrograde period ends, that is when action becomes appropriate, after everything has been reviewed.

Mars is squaring Neptune, showing a similar opinion of his gaslighting, which is indirectly supportive of Virgo's quest. Mars trining Saturn implies using the data to restructure or rebuild something that has either been falling apart of attempting to make progress.

The Moon, barely into Capricorn, is at the apex of a T-square, connecting with Jupiter in Aries and Venus in Libra. This shows a lot of tension but little emotion, perhaps functioning as a referee. Jupiter retrograde, as has been noted in the daily astrocasts, excels at identifying ethics and moral violations. Jupiter is the natural ruler of Sagittarius and thus legal and philosophical matters, but being in Aries, wants to take action, much like Mars in Gemini. Venus at home in Libra is again admonishing everyone to be polite and take a close look at all sides. She likes to maintain peaceful relationships, or at least get all arguments out in the open for fair assessment, and thus holding off Jupiter's desire to make a big deal of things.

PLUTO STATIONS DIRECT 8 OCTOBER 2022

Less than a week after Mercury stations direct, Pluto does so as well. As noted above, Pluto retrograde relates to digging up dirt, finding dirty secrets, and exposing corruption of all varieties. He's all about taking out the garbage or cleaning out the septic tank. It may seem odd that he is also about healing in the form of death and rebirth, but that requires a cleansing process. Think of the mythological Phoenix, rising from the ashes of its own destruction. Pluto goes retrograde every year, but the past few years he has had a target rich environment with his cosmic honey wagon possibly not big enough to contain all the excrement he's finding.

His trine to Mercury is still in effect, so it's likely he's providing what he's found to Mercury as ruler of communications, who is thriving on every dirty detail. Neptune is still trying to cover things up by ramping up the fog machine, which often comprises pointing at any accusers as the guilty parties. Mars in Gemini still doesn't like this, and is maintaining his objections by working with Saturn to provide that information in whatever is being rebuilt or restructured. However, this brings to mind the old adage, "Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." There's a lot of that going on lately.

This chart has the Libra Sun trining Saturn, bringing fairness back to the table, or at least emphasizing the importance of looking at both sides.

FULL MOON IN ARIES 9 OCTOBER 2022

A Full Moon typically indicates an ending, culmination, or shift to a new phase. Aries is the sign of the warrior and represents drive, aggression, and often impatience. Jupiter is in this sign, expanding its energy, though Jupiter is retrograde and will re-enter Pisces 29 October. There's a huge energy difference between Aries and Pisces, so mark your calendar and see if you can feel it. If you're a Sagittarius or Pisces (Jupiter is your traditional ruler) you should notice a shift.

Venus is conjunct the Sun in Libra, placing an emphasis on relationships. As the natural ruler of love and money, these are likely to be on the table for discussion. Mercury is now direct but still in Virgo. His opposition to Neptune's delusions continues as well as his trine to Pluto. While Mercury and Pluto were retrograde they were busy digging and reviewing old information. Now that both are direct, it's time for action and disclosure of what was found. Mars in data-driven Gemini is likewise still giving Neptune the stink-eye and trining Saturn, trying to contribute some common sense to whatever he's trying to rebuild. Uranus is quincunx the Sun, suggesting the need for a change of course or direction. Uranus tends to bring various disruptions that change the course of things. His square to Saturn is likely having the same effect, throwing distractions and disruptions in the way of progress and contributing to what matters need to be rebuilt. The lunation is sextile Saturn, suggesting an opportunity to kick the rebuilding process up a notch.

My impression of this lunation, which doesn't appear particularly dramatic, is that it's a transition period as some key planets station direct. So far that has been Pluto and Mercury with Saturn stationing direct next. Note that Saturn is already within 9 minutes of arc from his stationing degree, so that braking prior to going direct is in progress.

SATURN STATIONS DIRECT 23 OCTOBER 2022

This chart is far more interesting than that of the Full Moon. By the time Saturn stations direct, what needs to be rebuilt or restructured is usually more than apparent. Now it's time to get to work. The square to Uranus is still in effect, however, showing this is not going to be a smooth process, but fraught with disturbances. Mars is still squaring Neptune, protesting his delusional effects, and also trining the Sun and Venus, which are in cazimi conjunction (within 11 minutes of arc of exact). Both are not only cazimi, but anaretic at 29 degrees Libra. They are essentially at "wit's end" in fair Libra and ready to enter Scorpio, which in not nearly as polite and fair. By the time a planet reaches the final degree of a sign, it's saturated in that energy, much like a balloon that has reached its maximum expansion, and in a "now or never" situation for any aspects because once it changes signs, it's over. This pair is squaring Pluto and part of a course adjustment loop.

This pushback against what Pluto wants to unearth is holding back progress. Mars in Gemini has information, much of which relates to Pluto-rooter's work the past several months. This provides Mars with more data to work with, which he'll provide to the Sun and Venus in their efforts to put everything out on the table for all the world to see, which in turn can bring the transformation/healing that Pluto wants to achieve.

Jupiter currently occupies zero degrees of Aries, where he's opposed by the Libra Moon. This brings back the ongoing argument for fairness against Jupiter's activities discovering ethics and moral violations, somewhat like trying to put lipstick on a pig. Fair and polite as Libra may be, there are some things that defy decency. What will happen when he backs up into Pisces? Pisces, as the zodiacal 12th house, represents the collective consciousness among other things such as inspiration, enlightenment, etc.

There's another course adjustment loop connecting Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus, that indicates another area where an adjustment is needed before progress can be made. This comes back to Uranus' disruptions holding back Saturn's rebuilding. These disruptions need to be examined carefully in a fair and open manner and some changes instituted before Saturn will be able to accomplish what he's vying for. The quincunx between Uranus and Mercury implies that unexpected news or information may be the catalyst. These planets are in the 17 - 18 degree range of their respective signs. Early in August there was an interesting triple conjunction at 18 degrees Taurus that involved the North Node, Mars, and Uranus, which heated up that degree considerably. Uranus has remained in that degree for several months and has just barely stepped back to 17 degrees. Considering how unstable and unpredictable his energy is, when Mercury and Saturn connect there, something explosive and hard to ignore could easily occur.

NEW MOON/PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN SCORPIO 25 OCTOBER 2022

This partial solar eclipse extends across parts of the Arctic Ocean, Russia, small portions of eastern Pakistan, and India. As a partial eclipse, it's effects are not quite as strong as a total eclipse, but nonetheless stronger than the usual garden-variety lunation. Remember the total eclipse that crossed the USA back in August 2017? The usual influence of such an event is to divide a country. Unless you've been living under a rock, you have noticed that this has undoubtedly occurred. Factions are so polarized it's to the point that peaceful negotiations or resolution is nearly impossible. I viewed that eclipse and it gave me a very ominous feeling that made me understand why the ancients saw them as trouble brewing. Seeing the blackened Sun surrounded by a blazing corona gave me the impression of God withdrawing his light amid his fury of what was going on below. By the way, another eclipse crosses the USA in April 2024, the two paths forming an "X" across the country. I don't know about you, but that definitely doesn't bode well for our future.

This eclipse is 6 South of the Saros series. Note that its lunar counterpart occurs on 8 November, date of the midterm elections in the USA.

Here's the meaning of this eclipse series, according to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, as stated in her book Predictive Astrology: "This eclipse series is about being forceful and taking power. It has a manic flavour about it, with great force or strength manifesting in the relationship area. Individuals experiencing this Saros Series may experience sudden events, like falling in or out of love, or sudden sexual encounters. The individual may also exert a huge effort in some group activity." (Predictive Astrology, p. 317)

It's interesting that the first eclipse in this series, over a thousand years ago, was conjunct Venus, and this one is, too. The trio is quincunx Jupiter, retrograde in Aries, a strong signal for a change of direction, possibly based on Jupiter's activities uncovering ethical and moral violations. This lineup in Scorpio is not nearly as friendly as it was in Libra. Scorpio is the 8th house of the zodiac, which represents such things as sex, death, birth, transformations, debt, shared resources, and intense experiences. The South Node, which generally represents something going out of your life, is in Scorpio as well. This implies change and possible loss, though in actuality what leaves is simply making room for something new to come in to fill the void.

The course adjustment loops for this event are different than those for Saturn's station. Saturn's station involved Sun conjunct Venus, Mars, and Pluto for one, and Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus for the other. The eclipse loops involve Mercury, Mars, and Neptune and  Mercury, Mars, and Pluto. Mercury is involved in three of the four, showing the importance of information and communication while Mars is involved in three of the four as well, suggesting the need for action based on that information.

Mercury, Mars, and Neptune shows Mars still objecting to Neptune's deception, but Libra Mercury is prevailing upon Neptune to clean up his act, which will open up the way for action. This suggests that some of that data is likely to get whitewashed for the sake of disclosure, but nonetheless will come out. Mercury, Mars and Pluto has Libra Mercury unhappy with Pluto, who has undoubtedly found a plethora of data that is not politically correct. In this case, Mars will be working with Pluto to make some adjustments to whatever action will be taken.

Saturn's rebuilding plans are still having issues with Uranus, natural ruler of change. Note that Uranus also rules such things as technology, rebellion, freedom, and breakthroughs, suggesting that Saturn may not be listening or cooperating with these changes. Mercury trining Saturn with an influx of new information may help facilitate something there.

MARS STATIONS RETROGRADE 30 OCTOBER 2022

Mars, which was involved in three of those course adjustment loops, is now slamming on the brakes and backing up. Most of you are familiar with Mercury retrograde and its effects, but Mars only goes retrograde every couple of years so its influence is far less familiar. I've noticed that things I've done while Mars was retrograde often turned out to be exercises in futility. Things I bought turned out to be a waste of money and no longer needed as opposed to the malfunctioning usually symptomatic of items bought during Mercury RX. In general it seems to be a time to stop and reassess exactly what's going on and what should be done about it. This isn't so much about new action, as rectifying what has already been done. This retrograde lasts until 12 January, so make a note that any major purchases should be deferred, if at all possible, until after that time. By then the need may go away or other circumstances make the original intent moot. Mars is the natural ruler of drive and action, which is now idling in neutral for the next few months.

Things with which Mars RX is often associated are lack of motivation, suppressed anger, and its cousin, passive aggression. As noted by astrologer Erin Sullivan, who literally wrote the book "Retrograde Planets," about two weeks before Mars stations RX, Mars trines the Sun (in this case on 17 October) at which time a burst of enthusiasm or energy may be directed at something, but when the station occurs (30 October) this fizzles out, so note your calendar for those days and beware of anything that grabs your attention as likely to fade into the sunset. Another date to watch out for is 7 December, when the Sun opposes Mars, which is when whatever has been smoldering beneath the surface could burst into flames. Around New Year's Eve, when the Sun forms a quincunx to Mars, expect to discover something that precipitates a change of direction. When Mars stations direct (12 January) a sense of apprehension is likely that will last until the final trine (29 January) where "one instinctively knows that a situation, circumstance or condition is unsustainable and that an overt, radical change must take place." (Retrograde Planets, p. 327) If any of these coincide with a planet in your natal, progressed, or any other relevant chart the effects will be more pronounced.

With the USA midterm elections coming up under Mars RX, this does not bode well for those elected. Note that Mars was retrograde for the USA's 2020 election and look how that has turned out.

Looking at the chart for further clues, we find Mars is squaring both Neptune and Jupiter, the latter of which has now stepped back into Pisces. Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Pisces and Neptune its modern ruler, so both planets are dignified and thus strong, albeit retrograde. There's a good chance that this ramps up the fog machine to high, which would definitely be at cross-purposes with Mars in Gemini. By the way, due to this retrograde cycle, Mars will be in Gemini for a long time, from 21 August 2022 until 26 March 2023, i.e. over 7 months. If you have any planets in Gemini, particularly your Sun or Moon, while Mars is direct this is likely to have a motivational effect. You may have more energy and drive to get things done. While retrograde, this is likely to reverse. It might not necessarily be lethargy, but rather an inclination to go back and redo (or perhaps undo) something that pertains to the house Gemini represents. Considering the squares to Jupiter and Neptune, this may relate to confusion or doubt regarding why you took those actions in the first place. The quincunx from Mars to Pluto suggests a change of course, perhaps related to anything Pluto-rooter dug up that's relevant to you.

The Capricorn Moon is trining Uranus, suggesting sudden change or upsets relative to leadership, the square between Saturn and Uranus still in effect. It's somewhat interesting that the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in Scorpio are sitting this one out, not aspecting any other planets besides their in-house rolling stellium.

This coming month has so much going on that it's likely to be memorable for any number of reasons. Hopefully this information will be useful to you in some manner in anticipating some interesting events when so much disruptive energy is exploding across the cosmos.
