Lunations and Long-term Aspects

There are two significant long-term aspects out there that will last clear into next year as well as three lunations in December, including a New Years Eve eclipse.  The first one is that Saturn - Pluto square that was exact for the first time on November 15 and noted fairly extensively in your November Horoscope, which I suggest you reread.  Those of you born between September 24 - 28 will be feeling this the most as Saturn makes a pass over your Natal Sun with Pluto dangerously close to your 4th House cusp, thus stirring things up on the homefront.  Saturn goes retrograde mid-January, bringing the square back to exactness on January 31 with the aspect hanging around until mid-March.  You'll have a few months relief until later in the year when Pluto goes retrograde, creating an encore between July 22 - September 16, 2010.  You might want to mark your calendars accordingly.  The intent is certainly not to assure self-fulfilling prophecy but to provide some rhyme and reason for your logical mind if things seem to be going particularly poorly during those times.

As noted last month, Saturn on your Natal Sun is going to be imposing structure, discipline, and various other tutoring that you need at a very personal level.  Even when the square with Pluto isn't in effect, Saturn will still be grinding away on Natal Suns, slipping clear back into the last few degrees of Virgo during that time.  That will place Saturn in your 12th House, which probably won't be any more enchanting than when he's on your Sun, but I'll cover that in more detail in the relevant months.  This is not intended to give you a bad feeling about the coming year but more along the lines of forewarned is forearmed.  There's a purpose behind these transits and they're not solely to make you miserable.  The Universe wants everyone to progress and thus provides certain energy patterns that yield opportunities to learn.  These transits are only as grueling as they need to be to make their point.  In fact, if everything in the targeted part of your life is in perfect order, these transits would come and go unnoticed, other than the fact you would be seeing their effects in those around you or perhaps see them in your physical environment.  For example, if you don't need Saturn's mentoring with your personal life because you're perfectly disciplined, responsible, and mature, you could then experience foundation or structural problems with your home or which ever Natal House he's in.  The houses used in these horoscopes rely on "Sun Sign Astrology" where your Sun Sign defines your 1st House.  However, your individual natal chart's 1st house will be defined by your ascendant, which depends on the time you were born.  For further information on that, please refer to our section on Houses

You are expected to use your free will to decide how to use planetary transit energy.  It's up to you to decide whether you'll be a victor or a victim.  Like they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.  You can either do a lot of panty wringing and whining or take the bull by the horns and deal with it.  Saturn on your ascendant or Natal Sun is more difficult to handle sometimes because it can cause a dark and heavy feeling that easily translates into depression.  It's a lot easier to handle a problem when it's well-defined.  When you feel as if you're carrying the weight of the world around and don't understand why it's another story.  This can become a definite exercise in self-discipline where you remind yourself on a regular basis that feelings aren't necessarily facts and you adjust your thinking patterns to be as optimistic as other circumstances allow.  This is where Libra's ability to sort through the facts in a fair and unbiased manner will be your salvation.  If various personal weaknesses keep appearing on the screen, then deal with them but don't beat yourself up.  Unfortunately, Pluto will be doing enough of that, but we'll get to that in a moment.  The most important thing is to work with Saturn and not try to resist, which won't end well when you're dealing with a planet.  Also, don't take it personally, it's only the planets messing with you via their respective energies and not a personal vendetta.

And then there's Pluto.  While Saturn tends to be quite patient with his lessons, Pluto is not.  If you're not taking the hint with the god of the Underworld he may well decide "Enough of this crap!" and create a crisis of sorts, forcing you to take action.  Pluto is in your 4th House of home environment where he will be digging around with his zodiacal backhoe for all those dirty little secrets, skeletons in the closet, and anything else that was buried prematurely with regard to your home life.  This has the potential to be rather unpleasant for Libras who can tend to bury issues that they don't want to confront.  "Ignore it and it will go away" is often your motto and Pluto is going to be laughing in your face.  "Ya think?" he's saying, as he methodically starts slinging dirt all over your nicely groomed and landscaped front yard.  You need to look upon these old, unresolved issues as you would a festering abscess that isn't going to go away on its own but is going to require surgical removal.  If they're serious, don't hesitate to get help.  Pluto transits are an excellent time to seek therapy, not only because they can be soul-wrenching but because our perceptions are quickened along with our ability to see things we missed before.

With Saturn and Pluto squared you will be inclined to blame yourself more than you should since Saturn is the master of guilt.  While this can be a great motivator for self-improvement, don't go on a self-defeating guilt trip, further avoiding the issue at hand.  As a Cardinal Sign you have the leadership ability and as an Air Sign the necessary logic to get a grip on things, even if it requires some intervention from a neutral party.  Libras tend to be too hard on themselves in their determination to be fair to everyone else.  Now is when you need to recognize that you are not the world's scapegoat and your happiness is just as important as anyone else's.  If you've been letting people walk all over you, maybe that is what this transit is all about.  Those with Saturn retrograde in their natal chart have difficulty claiming the authority that is rightfully theirs, so if you have that as well, it may be even more difficult to claim the respect you deserve and speak up for yourself.  Pluto, however, is all about power, so he may help stir things up such that you can take appropriate control, at least as far as your home environment is concerned.

Another long-term influence is a Mars retrograde cycle that begins on December 20 and lasts until March 10, 2010.  The "shadow period" will last until May 17, which is when Mars will catch up to the zodiacal degree where he initially went retrograde, at which point any relevant issues should be resolved.  Mars is in Leo, your 11th House of friends, group associations, organizations, goals, hopes and wishes.  When Mars goes RX you tend to become more reactive versus assertive and it will also flush out unresolved conflict.  Clearly you're going to be on a regular roll, personally, at home, and with your group interactions, which will include your coworkers.  The good news here is that Leo is sextile Libra, a friendlier aspect that usually denotes an opportunity.  If your birthday is between September 23 - October 13, this will affect you sooner or later, actually in reverse order meaning that those of you born in mid-October will feel it first.  If you don't know what issues need to be resolved, there is very likely to be an incident right around January 29 that will bring it out.  This really looks like a good thing, giving you an opportunity to peacefully address something that has been festering or left unresolved relative to your group interactions.

It could also relate to one or more of your goals.  If your efforts to accomplish something have been futile, this will help you identify what might be holding you back.  There will be a Mercury retrograde period in there as well from December 26 - January 14 that will help you rethink and as necessary revise your plans.  Mercury will be in your 4th House of home environment at that time, so this would be especially useful for goals pertaining to your household.  It will actually also help with that Pluto transit as you reconsider past events and think them through, perhaps to a different conclusion than you originally reached.

The Full Moon on December 2 occurs in Gemini, your 9th House of beliefs, expectations, higher education, long-distance travel, relocation, legal matters and cultural interactions.  A Full Moon typically indicates an ending or culmination which can be the accomplishment of a major milestone that shifts a situation or relationship to the next level or phase.  Fellow Air Sign, Gemini, is in a nice, harmonious trine to Libra with this lunation most noticeable for those born within a day or so of October 4.  As a possible clue of what to expect, unexpected news related to your work could affect your take of things.  Inspiration relative to a creative idea is also out there as well as potential opportunities to enjoy yourself in a new and interesting way, perhaps exploring a new area or cultural experience.

The New Moon on December 16 is in Sagittarius, your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, neighbors, siblings and short journeys, which should bring something new to one of these areas.  There are numerous opportunities attached of a creative nature which will be helpful in seeing yourself in a new and different way, overcoming past hurts, and being more confident.  Unexpected events and surprises related to your job may cause a few speedbumps, but overall there are plenty of chances to pursue a new direction that could even have financial benefits.  This lunation will bring the most benefit to those born within a day or so of October 17.

The Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse on December 31 (January 1 for those of you who live in Australia or that side of the world) occurs in fellow Cardinal Sign, Cancer.  Eclipses have more punch than a normal lunation, anyway, and this one will be most significant for those of your born within a few days of October 3 since it will create a T-Square with your Natal Sun.  Your career, reputation or public image will be affected, which will in turn affect your home life.  There are two retrograde planets as well, Mercury and Mars, which will throw their effects as noted earlier into the general flavor of the eclipse.  This one is a member of the 12 North family of the Saros Series which, according to eclipse guru, Bernadette Brady, will bring an unexpected increase in your responsibilities, most likely because someone else is no longer able or available to do so.  The ultimate results, however, will be positive as the experience will be beneficial.  Once way this could come about is someone quits or retires, opening up a more responsible position or necessitating that you assume some of their work.  This could also require some adjustments to your homelife with the potential for something new coming into it as well.

Short-term and Daily Aspects

December 1:  Venus goes into Sagittarius, bringing her blessings to your 3rd House of thoughts, ideas, short journeys, neighbors and siblings until Christmas, so put it to good use.  This is also a good day to brainstorm any creative ideas you've been entertaining.

December 2:  Full Moon today as described above.

December 4:  If you've been a bit hard on yourself lately, today is a good one to cut yourself a few breaks.  Rather than lamenting past mistakes, consider how to rectify them or avoid repeating them.

December 5:  Mercury goes into Capricorn, which will help facilitate communications at home.  This extra help will be available until February 10 with a retrograde interlude between December 26 - January 14 for rethinking, revising, re-planning and reconsidering home-related issues.  Expect something to happen related to either work or an organization that rubs you the wrong way.

December 7:  Any home-related issues that have been swept beneath the carpet or concealed completely are likely to come out today, perhaps with a vengeance.  Don't be too quick to take the blame but use your inherent sense of fairness to dole it out appropriately.

December 8:  Friction between things that need to be done at home versus what you'd really like to do are out there today.  There should be plenty of energy to go around, so plan and prioritize accordingly.

December 10:  Your kids might be up to something today, hopefully something that will make you proud.  Activities related to others, perhaps running a bunch of errands, will occupy most of the day.

December 11:  Don't believe everything you hear today.  Get the facts, but avoid being too idealistic.

December 14:  Expect the unexpected at work.  It's likely to be an active, even hectic day.  Your efforts will be fruitful, however, and others will notice your good work so pat yourself on the back.

December 15:  Another good day for inspiration relative to a creative project.  Also a good day to escape to a movie or somewhere you can find peace and tranquility to renew your spirit.  Take note of what works for future reference when you need a break.

December 16:  New Moon today as described above.

December 17:  Interactions with members of the opposite sex should go especially well today.  It's also a favorable time to put forth any ideas you may have relative to an organization or group you're associated with.

December 19:  Upsets at work may interfere with your plans today, so be flexible.

December 20:  Mars goes retrograde today as described above.  This is yet another good day for inspirational ideas that could bring some financial benefit.  At the least they'll bring enjoyment and satisfaction your way.

December 21:  The Sun goes into Capricorn, marking the winter solstice.  Creative inspiration is out there in profuse quantities.  Adjustments to plans at home due to group activities are likely to be frustrating and cause you to wonder about whether or not it's worth it.

December 24:  Another day when old issues related to home are likely to surface.  Resist the temptation to sweep them back under the rug.  Think about how good it will feel to have them resolved, once and for all.

December 25:  Venus goes into Capricorn, which will help bring her love and harmony to your home environment.  Another day to be fair to yourself and not take the blame if you're not the sole cause.  If your goals are different than the rest of the household, figure out how you can compromise.

December 26:  Mercury goes retrograde today, providing internalized energy until January 14 which will be useful in addressing those old issues at home.

December 27:  More frustration is possible relative to your goals and the fact they seem stagnated.  Be objective about why and restructure the path as necessary but don't waste energy by beating yourself up.

December 28:  Power struggles, previously unknown money concerns, or other home issues will surface today.  Your goals still seem stagnated, but it's a time of review and reconsideration and not a time of progress, anyway.

December 29:  If you're having money challenges at home, look for the real reason and how to fix them rather than accepting or assigning blame, which will do nothing to rectify the problem.

December 30:  Avoid being too idealistic or expecting family members to be perfect unless you're prepared to offer it.  If you've been naive about something that has turned out to be an illusion, take note of why and move on.

December 31:  Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse as described above.
