Libras are typically mild-mannered and pleasant, largely because their cosmic programming has instilled them with the inherent need for balance. They need other people as much as a Leo needs praise and do not like conflict or discord. We have all heard a child at some time or another express the notion that "It isn't fair!" If you were to tabulate how often a child of each Sun Sign persuasion were to utter this phrase, you can bet that the Libran would win, hands down. They want everyone to be happy and if they're subjected to an environment where this is not the case, it will frustrate and depress them. If their parents or siblings are constantly in a contentious frame of mind, the little Libran see this is constant interference and noise and will try to rectify it. If they're fighting a losing battle, they'll withdraw, not quite to a fetal position, but their social development will more than likely be impaired. No astrological sign does a better job of seeing the world through someone else's knothole, undoubtedly aided by the fact their Sign Ruler is Venus. Their interest and concern for people seeks for understanding. They will listen to everyone else's point of view and even if it differs substantially from their own they won't argue. Rather, they will find a way to agree. As time goes on and they grow older they'll eventually be perceived by someone as two-faced, simply because they can agree in perfect honesty with two opposing views. Some people may even feel betrayed, when all the little Libran was trying to do was preserve the peace and really could see both sides. Fairness will be a reverberating theme for their entire life. If they're ever involved personally in some sort of situation that they believe wasn't fair, it will bother them tremendously, even though they're very unlikely to confront the other party. They will remember it for a long time and be bothered by it with the only possible resolution if they can eventually learn the "why" of it and thus understand. An apology usually works well for this peace-loving sign. In today's society where divorces are the norm, you can see what a mess this could create. Too many parents use their children as pawns and will also try to influence their feelings toward the other parent. This can be harmful enough with virtually any child of any astrological birthright, but to a Libran this will be horribly painful. S/he simply won't want to hear it. At first, depending on their age, they might try to speak on behalf of the absent parent but will usually learn to keep quiet because of the reaction it evokes. They want to be on good terms with both and when a parent maintains that "the friend of my enemy is my enemy" with regard to their former spouse, this can have very damaging and lasting effects on the child. Thus, if you're in this situation, it behooves you to consider your child's inherent happiness and mental health and not indulge in bashing your ex. This is advisable in all cases but critical for little Librans. Not only do they like peace with respect to the people in their lives but they also need order. This isn't the compulsive, perfectionistic order a Virgo may seek, but a predictable, peaceful balance. Naturally, not everyone is born with this ability, but Librans will be more receptive to it than others, particularly if they discover that keeping their room picked up or neat makes mommy or daddy happy. On the other hand, "order" does not only mean that everything is put away where it belongs. It can also means things are left alone, undisturbed. A Libran can tolerate a mess provided no one else is bothered by it and he can find what he needs. Again, it all comes back to wanting everyone to be happy. If lack of order upsets another family member, it will be the frustrated family member that upsets the Libran, not the mess itself. The Sun, which astrologically represents our ego and personal identity, is in a condition known as "fall" when it is in Libra. This means that it can't operate to its fullest and implies the challenges a Libran has defending his ego. This is also why s/he is so dependent on others, for companionship as well as validation. They need to be liked. The need other people. Libra is a Cardinal Sign with inherent leadership abilities. These can arise in childhood as they strive to get everyone to get along. They usually get along with just about everyone and are non-controversial and non-competitive. Unless they have an ascendant or Moon Sign that instills jealousy they'll be truly happy for the winner, whoever it is. If their best friend comes in second they will try to console them and possibly even make the mistake of trying to explain why the winner deserved to come in first. In trying to keep the peace, they get themselves in trouble more often than their behavior itself. Since they don't like to argue, it's important that you make sure they associate with the right kids. Even though they have what it takes to be in charge, they won't fight or argue with someone for that role and can fall into being an obedient follower to avoid conflict. If they're hanging with a well-behaved crowd this is great; they won't tip the boat. But if they're hanging with a questionable crowd, they won't either, which can mean trouble. Librans have an inherent appreciation for beauty and do well with the finer things in life. They will like music, art, good books, and appreciate refinement and be uncomfortable with coarseness of any kind. Little or even medium-sized Librans may not care too much for team sports because the competition tends to result in contention of some form, even if contained. As they get older and you want to keep them in the right crowd, sports like swimming or track are usually good bets along with anything else where they're part of a team but their individual performance counts more. They tend to do very well in debate where they can easily take up for either side and as adults do well as attorneys. As an Air Sign they are more logical than emotional, but their seemingly logical need for fairness can drive their emotions. Again, this will depend a lot on their Natal or Progressed Moon Sign. One of the most important lessons that all Librans need to learn is that life isn't fair. While they may eventually be able to understand that intellectually, they will still have a hard time with it emotionally and try to even the playing field however they can. On the other hand, if they discover in a harsh or bitter way that life is not fair they could become vengeful or retaliatory, especially with a Fire or Water Sign Moon. However, in most cases, they become attractive, pleasant, hard-working adults who are very well-liked. They main thing they need to learn is to stand up for themselves and realize that they don't always have to be the one to make concessions so everyone is happy. Primary Need: Harmony |
