Your little archer hails from the 9th House which comprises higher education, legal matters, other cultures, long-distance travel, beliefs, expectations, politics and religion.  They have a natural sophistication and affinity for complex matters.  Start saving early for their college education because they are probably going to spend a number of years within those ivy-covered walls.

Thus, you should begin preparing them for this experience at a young age.  Of course the best means for learning is “field trips” but if you can’t afford lengthy vacations abroad, at least introduce them to what you can.

Little Archers are likely to have a multitude of interests but you might be able to identify their primary interest before they’re out of elementary school.  If so, feed him or her everything you can about it.  One thing Sagittarians tend to all have in common is world travel.  They’re fascinated by other cultures, even those within their native country.  They are people watchers and interested in what makes them tick in different ways.  Thus, let them watch things like the Travel Channel from an early age.  As soon as they’re old enough give them a globe and talk about it.  They will soak it up like a sponge.

As a Fire Sign they will have a lot of enthusiasm.  They will be optimistic by nature, thanks to Jupiter, their Sign Ruler, though this could be mitigated by their ascendant or Moon Sign.  They may tend to be over-confident.  Of course you don’t want to squelch this entirely, but you may have to teach them to tone it down a bit.  As they mature, they do tend to be pompous.  Somewhat like Leos, who believe themselves to be descended from royalty, Sags believe themselves to be descended from Einstein.  They have a temper with a character all it's own.  They're not aggressive like an Aries

Sagittarius is a Mutable Sign.  As intelligent as they are, they are not natural-born leaders.  They tend to talk over people’s heads as they get older and don’t relate well to common folk.  They may become a recognized expert in their chosen field and have a lot of potential for success.  Since they love learning they could become obsessed with it, especially if they have any influences from neighboring Scorpio.  They are adaptable, also, which helps them to be open to learning and experiencing the world.  In some cases they may zero-in on a single field of study but in others they may become an information junkie, so to speak, and become the proverbial jack of all trades and master of none.  They have a good sense of humor but not everyone can understand it and there will be numerous times that they may not understand yours, either.

All Fire Signs have a lot of energy with their physical and mental energy closely matched.  Thus, encourage physical activity and sports.  Their thirst for knowledge and understanding can make them outstanding athletes; learning the rules won't bore them, though they may question them from time to time.  They may enjoy sports where they can excel as an individual, such as martial arts with their success in their own hands rather than dependent on a team.  They will also enjoy sports statistics which they'll see as brain candy.  Scouting, which offers a wide variety of experiences, is also a worthwhile activity.  It's unlikely that a young Sag will want to spend hours on end playing Halo or some other video game; they rather be doing something real.

Since they thrive on new experiences, their teen years can be a bit rocky.  Again, keeping them fully engaged and occupied with appropriate activities will help steer them away from less appropriate endeavors.  If possible, keep them focused on a higher education and the college experience and all the positive things they don't want to miss.  Keep reminding them that the world is an exciting place with lots of cool things to do besides checking out the drug or alcohol scene.

The thing to remember is that your little Sag will bore easily and will want to be on the move learning new things.  Here is another child where a substantial investment in truly educational toys will most likely pay outstanding dividends.  To save your own sanity you'll want to teach them how to entertain themselves at as early an age as possible because you won't be able to keep up otherwise.  Feed their mind as well as their body, encourage that natural optimism and make sure they have something to look forward to; a bored or depressed Sag is truly a sad sight to behold.  Whatever you do, don't smother their joie de vivre but take advantage of their natural curiosity and need to explore as an excuse to enjoy life more yourself.  Parenting is a grand adventure and a little Archer can truly show you the way.
